the one answer I can state without issue is ... consistently. in other words stick to an average and post +- of that average over 6 months.

if anyone tells you you cant do that, then they are full of poo...

I work with 5 as my average

    That's correct.

@OP: It's not so much a matter of slow or fast but about consistency. As soon as you start your link building process, you have to continue doing it. Then it looks natural and you should be safe. But be aware that you will experience the Google dance. So don't panic when it happens.

You can build as many or few, just the flow odf links to your site must be some kind of constant flow, not to obvious, but you need to build links all the time even if you have all first ranking for desired keywords you must ocassionaly build backlinks to maintaion that position

I agree. A contant flow of links is more important than the quanity. Most people say 5 per day looks natural. I think you can do much more than that and be safe. I usually give it a good blast at first. Then go to 5 a day for the main page and then another 20-25 deep links per day on the inner pages for your deep links.

If you are doing your link building manually, then you probably won't be able to make google see more than an average of 20 links per day. This is due to 2 factors:

    1) Google sometimes rejects a link entirely because it doesn't like the source. This is reflected in the huge differences between the backlink reports of backlinkwatch.com (yahoo) and google webmaster tools. The latter almost always shows fewer backlinks for your site.

    2) There will be an indexing delay for all backlinks. This can range from a few seconds to several weeks, and tends to smooth out the rate at which Google registers your links.

As for the best build rate, It's not as simple an issue as other posters here are making out. Sure, you may well be safe if you try to be consistent and as a rule it's best to try and keep things that way.

However, I have had success with one site which had 2 weeks intense building, 1 month stop, 2 weeks intense building, 1 month stop, and the same again. It was sandboxed for a few months but now it's doing great and I haven't sent any links to it for 4 weeks now. There are exceptions to the consistency rule. Google's algorithm is complex and you never know what you're going to get. I tried very consistent building with one site and it has yet to show itself in the serps.

The point I'm making is that consistency seems to make sense, but even following this rule will not guarantee you success in the SERPs.

Sorry for Hijacking this thread, :(
    What do you think about

    -------
Building 60~100 high pr links (most of them are spammy >50%) [PER DAY]

    VS

1 high pr backlinks (spammy<50% OR not so spammy OR Clean) [PER DAY]
    -------

    Any thoughts?
I've tried both but didn't see any success, just wanna see what other bhw member's experience on this.
