Building blog network on purchased PR domains?

Hi,

Is it a good idea to build private blog network on purchased PR domains? Like, I'll buy a few domains that have PR and build a private blog network and then start building links to them for maintaining. Will the links from those blogs give any value to my money site? I'll of course host each domain on different C-Class IPs, even planning to host on B and A Class IPs.

Sure. Always make sure the PR is real, stay away from "PR7 domain for $55" or domains that have a high PR but low quality backlinks, always analyze the domain's backlinks (domain can show 11,000 backlinks with most of them being spammy ones), for this I suggest you look at anchor used as this is the easiest way to do it. I usually count on Ahrefs for backlinks analysis purposes.

So, you mean even if I purchase PR domains and link them to my money site, they will give good link juice. Sure, I'll check for the PR real/fake and also for the quality backlinks. Thanks for you advise.

I guess you can do that without a problem. Since, it's one of the thing many blog network owners do to add up new blogs to their network.

Of course they will. If you buy dropped PR3 domains (these are the cheapest you can find), make sure that the PR is real and they still have a few good backlinks, pointing at them. Add content to the sites as soon as you get the domains and build a few more links - the sites are likely to survive one or two PR updates, and then the PR might drop eventually (this is what happened to the last batch of domains I bought). You can sell a few links on these sites (what I did) and use the money to order posts from a content writer, and use these posts for your sites

I have been doing this professionally for last 12 months.

Build network, rank a site, sell whole deal or use it for own good.

You need couple things:

1. soft to manage content on blog network - schedule posts/etc/etc - trust me, you do not want to log on and configure wp-robot or any other plugin on each blog.
2. preferably a non-seo hosting that gives you good IP diversity.

In my experience though, you can easily put 2-3 sites in same niche on same IP without problems.

When building blog network, however, MAKE SURE your sites look real enough to pass manual inspection, especially, if you are planning aggressive backlink building to those blogs. That would mean that ideally you would want a professional theme, all the author/about me/privacy/contact info pages made and at least 5-6 good quality unique posts per blog. Make sure you have all the social sharing plugins and, if possible, build some social proof - fbook likes, tweets, high authority social bookmarking will surely help and attract some traffic as well.

Same goes for backlink building from those blogs. Forget everything you know about SEO, think and link from those blogs like a person that has no clue about SEO - that means do not make each post 500-700 words linking out with some keywords. Toss in posts with no links at all, toss in a good curated posts, write few unique articles, go on vacations.

There is no need to post to those blogs on a daily basis - no sane real person does (well, except for those with no life, but you get the idea). Forget about auto scraped content such as press releases/etc - you can have section of those, but that should not be the core of your site. Ideally, you want to build a 20-30 post highly themed mini-site and then move to next one leaving this one for good.

One more thing - it is worth going all those extra steps because this will be an asset you own and not someone else's blog you can nuke shit out.

I've seen the exact opposite. If you're trying to rank multiple sites for the same keyword, the MUST be on different servers if the keyword is at all competitive.

I do a lot of reputation management and need to rank a lot of sites for the same keyword. I use all of my own domains so I control the content and page forever. So far I've built a handful of sites and I'm always building links to them. Since I need them all to rank for the same keyword, client/business name, I have them all on different shared hosts. Most with hostgator.

2-3 sites on one IP in same niche is still OK. Don't mean they have same author, same style, same posts or even same anchor combinations.

Think how many "weight loss" blogs sit on one hostgator shared/cloud server? 10k? 20k? more?

I haven't seen two sites on the same server/IP rank in the top 10 for any kind of medium-high comp keyword. Even low comp keywords it's rare.

Just because the blogs are all about weight loss and they're on the same server which will have roughly 1-5,000 domains, does not mean they're all ranking for that keyword.

You are forgetting one thing - you are not trying to rank those blogs but merely pass link juice to the sites you want to rank and those, naturally, should be kept far away.

P.S.

I have ranked sites in same/overlapping niches sites that sit on same IP's - 3 at the time. Still ranking btw.

Why would you not want to rank these blogs? Wouldn't you rather have 2 or 3 sites in the top 10? If you're going to pass the ranking power, they need to be on separate IP's anway. Google isn't dumb enough to think that 100 domains all on the same IP, all linking to the same site is a random coincidence. So put each site on a new server/IP and try to rank each domain for a related long tail keyword, or the main keyword itself if it's not very competitive.

I use those sites to rank other, hence I don't really care where they stand and we are not talking about 100 domains - that wont work, but 2-3 sitting on same IP do work, seriously.

Do you guys have a kind of standard on the minimum PR for your blogs on the network?
Maybe minimum PR3 or something?

I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just saying that I've seen it first hand and for me personally, it's never worked.

I look for indexed domains with a few incoming links. I try to keep the theme of the site the same so I usually look for links related to the theme. PR doesn't matter to me, only the links.

I'd rather have a PR 0 with a few hundred quality links than a PR 6 with 2 IBL's.

I usually go for age and relevancy when looking at expired domains, PR is a bonus if I get it and, in my experience, higher PR on newer domains usually tend to stick less often than say a PR2 on a business site from 1998.

Having said that, you need all kinds of PR, even 0 but that should not be your main target. Go for relevancy instead - better buy a 5-7 years old PR1 domain in your niche than have high PR dog food site and then try to link from it to stock market blog...

Same goes for TLD's - mix em up good, even .info's

And +1 to BHopkins - better have a good pr0 site but with decent links. Keep in mind that those link checkers are not 100% accurate, especially, if sites are 7+ years old - lot's of "forgotten links" from directories/etc/etc.
