How well do category pages pass backlink power to posts listed under them?

Say for example i build quality PBN links to a category page in order to rank the individual posts nested under the category, will the posts receive any link power and how effective is this link building strategy?

The posts will receive a little link power, but obviously you're going to be far better off building a few links to the specific post pages. As a shortcut, it's not going to work to just push all the links into the category page. Also, it's going to depend a lot on the actual quality of the post page - If it's long enough (1000+ words) and strong enough you'll rank much better.

It depends of a lot of things... What about your internal links? And what about the power of your BLs?

Anyway, you have to vary to look like "natural". You can try to link your category page with the "best" backlinks (trusted / juicy) in order to benefit your individual posts, and link your internal posts directly with less powerful backlinks

I'm assuming you're using Wordpress, so I'll let you know what I know using WP and back linking my category pages.

I have noticed that I can rank my category pages quite easily and they do send ranking power to the posts under the category. Google still likes the power of 'funneling' the link power throughout your WP website. Themes that allow you to put article text on the category pages are the best, because you can make a well written article (2000+ words) to give it authority. Once you have the category page all SEO'd up you can then bring ranking power from the index page with links from it to the category page, and of course the category page will send power to the posts under it.

Example of funneling link power to individual posts:

    index page is about:
    'gardening'

    category page is about:
    'gardening tools'

    individual posts under category:
    'How to use a shovel'
'How to use a weed whacker'
    'How to use a rake'
    'How to use a hoe'

Etc, basically you take the main topic from the front index page and link it to the category to send the power to the posts.
