Building an Authority Website

Just stumbled upon your thread and I have to say it has given me motivation to start on a new project.

Quick question, do you plan on writing all your articles yourself or are you looking into buying a few articles? I'm curious to see what your thought is on this because from my experience writing my own content is really time consuming and on top of that I'm not a great writer..

Thanks for your reply, glad you found some motivation in this thread.

Some of the articles I write by myself, and some of them I get written on Textbroker. Textbroker is usually quite expensive but the quality of articles can be very good. If it's an article that is not as important, I'd look at iWriter.

Writing them by yourself is usually very time consuming, but it can be worth it and safe you some money, especially if you're just starting out. Good luck with your project.

There are no specific guidelines that I follow for backlinking. I try to go after very easy to rank keywords (sometimes I summarize a couple of them in one article). If the competition for the keyword is low, I build maybe 5 nice Web 2.0s and add some contextual backlinks to them. Then I mix it up with some comments on websites that I found while researching (blogs, reddit, etc), social signals, etc.

Any tips on how to find some contextual backlinks or just hq backlinks in general? I can get plenty of expired tumblrs but getting only tumblrs doesn't seem to be working for me as I've sent plenty and the kws barely move

Good luck and don't ever give up!

One thing you could add is some footer widgets, or even a departure page (new popunders form.)

Also i'm not sure what that site you're using is, but you are only allowed to host 3 AdSense banners at a time... Unless Google officially allows this, so don't play too many risks.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I use Ezoic for my Ads. They are a certified publishing partner and allowed to place more than three ads. More info here.

Regarding Tumblr, have a look at this guide and make sure you placed your links correctly.

It's interesting. Bookmarked and will follow you. I have in plans to build an authority so your experience will be useful for me. Thanks for the share!

Have you ever received a payment from them yet? How's your CTR and RPM? What's their payment net?

I got their emails over a week ago but I turned it down due to the online reviews.

Thanks a lot for sharing! I'll have a look at them.

Definitely appreciate you dropping the site RankXL, been gorging on his blog (no homo), I see that's a tool he recommended on his resources page, good stuff on there!

Actually, no. But Jon Dykstra, the guy recommending it, seem's legit - so I give it a try. I'll let you know whether I receive my payment, minimum payout is 20$.

RPM is about 3-5$ and CTR about 1-1.5%.

Wanted to say, got done reading the guys entire blog, real good stuff in there, especially how he handles his content. I ended the blog with the post about creating an authority piece of content and going for the big words themselves, and then have supporting long tail keyword posts.
I have a site..kinda. Hosting, domain, keywords etc. I am trying to figure out how to use the top keywords naturally in the main post, which ones to use (cause I have some keywords that are plural, and some that are unnatural reading wise).

How many keywords are you targeting for your authority post for your site?

You're talking about RankXL, I guess? I don't have a specific formula on how many keywords I'm targeting. So far I haven't put up much content and I'm trying to go about the easy to rank keywords first in order to earn a little money to speed up the process. That's the the opposite of what Chris does by publishing the big articles focusing on more competitive keywords first.

Example: I'm currently posting a series about shirts (not really, obviously) because I found out that the terms "blue shirt", "white shirt" and "black shirt" are easy to rank. Once I start ranking them I'll create a big buyers guide about "colored shirts" which is mediocre to rank but attracts more visitors. The ranking will be a litte bit easier if I can point inbound links from already ranking sites to the article. At least that's what I hope - I haven't tested it out yet.

Update from the last seven days:

Weekly Stats
Sessions: 3555 (+680)
Revenue: 27.80 (+17.60)
Articles: 5 (+1)

I'm really happy about the progress - if I forecast the revenue on one month, I passed 100$ a month this week!

Another week passed!

Here are the stats:
Sessions: 3366 (-198)
Earnings: 22.20 (-5.60)
Articles: 6 (+1)

Unfortunatley, the website ist currently not growing as fast as it was the last couple weeks. But that's okay, success doesn't happen overnight.

I was messing with the AdSense code and missed a few days of earnings. Overall, I think it should about at the same level as last week.

As the website itself is set up nicely and doesn't require much maintenance work, I'll shift my focus completley on off-site SEO for the next week. I have a few keywords that would tremendously benefit from better rankings (but honestly, which keyword doesn't?).

Plans for the next week:
  • identify three keywords that I will focus on
  • write or order a 400 to 500-word article for each keyword
  • build 10 do-follow web 2.0s for each keyword (using public proxies)
  • add spun versions of the articles to each web 2.0 (30 in total)
  • get the new backlinks indexed

To do this I'll get the trial version of Autofill Magic, which lasts 7 days and is not too expensive if I want to continue using it afterwards. There's an article spinner included which is a plus.

Another thing I decided to do is to get up a little earlier each day the next week to have some undistracted time to work on this project. This is inspired by the book The Perfect Day Formula from Craig Ballantiyne (which I haven't read but I've heard an interesting interview with him). As a morning person, this should be doable. I'l report back next Sunday.

Have a great week!

Good luck this will be a interesting journey to follow!

Last week has been very busy and unfortunatley, I didn't manage to progress as far as I planned with my link building.

But nevetheless, I got up at 6.15 every day and worked on the project for 30-40 minutes or went to the gym eairly. This is something that I'll try to keep up from now on.

Stats from the last seven days:
Sessions: 3'960 (+594)
Income: 36.50 (+14.30)
Articles: 6 (+0, wrote two articles for backlinking)

The all time best income so far was casued by an unnatural spike in Amazon sales. Someone bought quite a few products together from one of my links. I currently estimate my regular earnings a week at 25$.

Plans for the next week:

  • finalize 30 web 2.0 backlinks

As I have a lot of work to do from my dayjob next week, more than this seems unrealistic form today's perspective. I really wish I could grow this site faster but I have to be patient and just do what I can.

Thanks for reading and have a productive week!

I like your word ""I rather post one per week and build a backlink profile for them. " i think this is why you can get a lot of visitor even with 3 article.

Hi, do you only build backlink with web 2.0? i want to ask about your web 2.0 backlink. do you build backlink to each article or homepage? and for 1 website/article, how many web 2.0 do you build for it? "build 10 do-follow web 2.0s for each keyword" did you build 10 web 2.0 per article?

I read your thread and you only focus on SEO off page. the result is good. i hope you can share how you build backlink on your website too. thanks

I'm currently building 10 web 2.0s for 3 of my new keywords, which is 30 total. I use Autofill Magic for this. Once I complete them and have them indexed, I might buy some contextual tier 2 links to them to increase their authority.

There are some very good guides about backlinking on this forum. They do a much better job explaining how to build a solid backlink profile than I do:

I focus on off page SEO at the moment because my on page SEO is on point - at least from what I can tell. Once I built the backlinks I'm currently working on, I'll go back into content creation mode.
