Building an Authority Website

Can you explain more what is "Authority Site?"

For me, this means that I literally want to become an authority in my niche. If my niche would be dog training, I want to become the central resource for everything about dog training (compared to build a niche site about dog training tips for albino labradors)

How come you got so many visitors already o.O

I rank on page 1 for 3 keywords.

How old is the domain?

Time for another update!

Expired Web 2.0s
Last week, I spent most of the time on the hunt for expired web2.0s. This was way more exhausthing than I thought. It took me a quite a while to figure out how to work with Virtual Box and to set up Domain Hunter Gatherer. Then I was investing quite some time into getting nice proxies. Unfortunatlely, DHT didn't work out for me. So I switched to Scrapebox and after a few nights of scraping and checking I got a list of about 20 really nice expired tumblrs (PA 35-50, TF 10-30, etc).

But as I figured out, I can't register most of them. I check them daily to see if anything changes. So far I have 6 registered Tumblr blogs (all on different IPs and emails; without any content or links to it). Hopefully they stay alife the next week and I can add some more to the list. Currently, I'm experimenting with the Expired Tumblr Hunter - I let you know how it goes.

Weekly Stats:
Pageviews: 2'600 (+1'000) - a new keyword got indexed.
Earnings: 3.7$ (-3.3) - my AdSense earings dropped; no idea what happened.
Articles: 3 (added a 500 word product review with an Amazon link to an existing article)

This is a journey to build an authority website.

Simply put, my strategy is publish high quality content for a single or multiple keywords and create high quality backlinks. I'm currently focusing on organic traffic only and monetize my website through AdSense and Amazon.

What have I done so far?
  • Chose a broad niche
  • Got a new domain and created an appealing website
  • Set up AdSense ads
  • Published 2 articles (writing these articles is really time consuming)

At the moment I mainly use web 2.0s for backlinking but I want to start doing guest posts soon.

Current goal: 15'000 visitors a month (that's what's needed for buysellads.com and ezoic.com)
Status: 6'600 (which equals 220 a day)

Good luck with your journey!

I'm a bit surprised to see those traffic numbers in the first post, given that you had a brand new site with 2 articles on it. How old is the domain/site? How much SEO had you already done on the site before posting this journey? In any case, it looks like you're doing great.

Sorry, that was a bit misleading. I have the domain for a year now, but it was new when I registered it.
I target keywords with low competition (KC < 30) and built my own web2.0s for it which I boosted with relevant blog comments as third tier. Also added some links for diversity to tier 1.

Ah, I see, that makes sense. Well, you're doing a great job, I'm sure you'll have plenty of success with your site.

Mate, you are getting 2,600 page views and only $3 in adsense earnings? Something isn't right here.... should be way more $

Well, the two keywords I get most traffic from currently have a suggested bid >1.5$. But unfortunatley the ad competition for them is low. So basically nobody is running ads for these keywords, which results in CPC of 0.1$ or something like that. That's unfortunate but there's not much I can do about it except target better keywords next time.

I am also working for authority website. can see your sample ?

This post is a perfect one for me to read and follow. I have to built an authority site, too, and I am doing the same link building technique. I will be attending to my web2.0s more, and post one article per day on money site. I want to have a clean backlink profile.

Only thing I do not understand, OP, is how have you managed to rank so fast? Maybe the high PAs of the Web2.0s helped but I guess the domain you had had some authority to it.

My keywords have a CPC of more than 1$ but I haven't started to post articles about them. I will be focusing on being a clean site and then once I have a following, I'd be writing articles related to my KWs.

Also, how are you writing the articles?

I prefer not to send the URL to random forum members. But if you have a look at some good examples, look at what Trun Tang from Cloudliving is doing on www.thankyourskin.com or at www.healthambition.com from the AuthorityHacker guys. They usually write about what they do on their blogs. Speaking about blogs, make sure to check www.rankxl.com and www.fatstacksblog.com as well. Good luck with your site.

Okey,
So how much your post you have currently?
Why very specific niche?

Great to hear. Do you have a thread about your journey that I can follow?

Your strategy sounds fine as far as I can tell, but I'm no expert. I can't keep up with posting one article a day and rank them. I rather post one per week and build a backlink profile for it.

I just checked the PAs of some Web2.0 linking to an high ranking article, and yes two have a authority of 58 and 57. They used to be much lower but it looks like the third tier backlinks improved them.

Some of the articles I write by myself and some of them are outsourced to textbroker.com.

That is a huge PA. No, I have no journey thread.

"I rather post one per week and build a backlink profile for them. "

Now that I think of it, I would give it a try!

Weekly update time!

Expired Web 2.0s
I found this amazing guide by mindmaster that I'm following:
http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...r-blogs-10-times-faster-than-anyone-else.html

I have currently 8 expired tumblrs ready with an average PA of 33 and a TF of 13.5. I'll add more to that list the next days and drop the links when I add my next article.

Increased Ad Revenue
I signed up for Ezoic which allows me to put five AdSense ads on my page instead of three. It's also split testing the best placements and optimizing performance. This lead to an increased revenue this week despite the fact that AdSense RPM plummeted for a lot of publishers at the beginning of this month.

Weekly Stats
Sessions: 2'870 (+270)
Earnings: 10.20$ (+6.50)
Articles: 4 (+1)

how many backlinks do you build per article and what kind of links? And what do you use to build those links

There are no specific guidelines that I follow for backlinking. I try to go after very easy to rank keywords (sometimes I summarize a couple of them in one article). If the competition for the keyword is low, I build maybe 5 nice Web 2.0s and add some contextual backlinks to them. Then I mix it up with some comments on websites that I found while researching (blogs, reddit, etc), social signals, etc.

Just stumbled upon your thread and I have to say it has given me motivation to start on a new project.

Quick question, do you plan on writing all your articles yourself or are you looking into buying a few articles? I'm curious to see what your thought is on this because from my experience writing my own content is really time consuming and on top of that I'm not a great writer..
