So, I think I have read all there is to read about SEO and link building, no follow, do follow, yadda yadda, I think I can rank a site with low competition and good keywords, but I have one problem: building a web site.

I am looking for this process to be as easy as possible, but I do want results. That might sound silly because so many things require a lot of work (which I am fine with) but I would rather put the work into SEO and ranking.

Does anyone on here know of a pretty straight forward program that shows newbies how to build websites? I have seen a commercial for a site called intuit which is more geared for small "local" businesses, and I am really looking to make some sites to review/push clickbank products and possibly some sites optimized for adsense. So all in all, the websites can be very simple.

Any ideas?

If you can't code use wordpress, no real competition out there. Alot of people who can code reasonably well still use wordpress for certain things because it is that good.

If you want to learn to make websites properly learn html first.
Type this into notepad and save it as index.htm
<html>
Hello World
</html>

Once you've mastered html move on to php/mysql, linux, ruby. Probably in that order.

WYSIWG html editors are a waste of time, you don't learn anything you wouldn't learn typing up a word document and sooner or later you are going to have to learn to hard code anyway.
 
How do you know if you've "mastered" html? Are there enough free resources online to accomplish this?
 
Sorry bad terminology. What I should of said is once you find html alone restrictive move on. Additionally I didn't talk about CSS which is really good to have in your box of tricks.
 
Definitely +1 for wordpress if you want a simple solution that comes with a short learning curve.

I'd go like this to be thorough :D
html > css > php/mysql > javascript > xml
and from there maybe Ruby or Actionscript or whatever else you want to get advanced with.
 
If you want to focus on design and make stunning sites without learning all those languages I would recommend xara web designer. The best 50 dollars that I ever spent. Its a WYSIWYG and more. Its for the noobs and the pros. Dont down it until you see it. For the record xara's flagship is a vetor editor software.
 
wordpress for sure. if you want a quick html tutorial, go to w3schools.com
 
You have to love Wordpress basically. Its what you want.

It wont hurt to learn some HTML and CSS as well, but unless you want to spend your time coding rather than doing other things I wouldn't go beyond that.

If you manage to get the IMing right you can hire people to do that for you later if you want something more advanced.
