    Building a niche arcade site
Hey I?ve been on bhw for a little while now mostly lurking and reading other peoples threads. I started with Fiverr, and made $300 the first month but I was doing too much work for too little pay and in January I decided to reinvest the money and to enter the arcade niche. I started an authority arcade and was able to drive a decent amount of traffic, around 500 people a day. I did this by making my own flash games and putting a link back to my site in them, and uploading the games to other arcade sites, this is pretty much what every arcade site that can afford to hire a game developer does, luckily in my case I could make the games on my own. This worked pretty well but a large majority of my visitors were from China or other countries with a very low cpc this would be okay if I could either increase my traffic by a lot or build a good fan base from the American players, but unfortunately the arcade niche is incredibly popular and they have no reason to use my arcade over other, better arcades.

    The Plan
I?ve decided that increasing my traffic would be a lot of work and not worth it. The arcade niche is really competitive, and the big arcades have a lot of money backing them. Instead of trying to compete with them I?m going to attempt to build a niche arcade site that will mostly have only my games; I don?t want my players being linked to other arcade sites. The niche that I?ve picked is very easy to build games in, and has a decent amount of monthly search traffic, if I can rank it well the search traffic combined with traffic from the games should be pretty good and I believe it can be pretty profitable.

    Goals
I?ve bought the domain and hosting already, the site is going to run off wordpress, I?m either going to use an existing wordpress arcade theme that I find online or find a wordpress theme that I can modify to look like an arcade and use a plugin that lets me embed flash games into my posts, I expect to get this done today. I?ve also already made a game in the niche that I?m targeting for my other arcade site so I?ll add it to my new site since I don?t mind people being linked to my other site from this site.

I don?t know much about seo to be honest, but I see this as an opportunity to learn a bit about something new, I don?t think the niche is very competitive and if Google is working properly then my site should in theory rank naturally as long as my site really is about the niche, unfortunately I don?t trust Google very much so I?ll be writing a few articles targeting my keywords and creating a few backlinks, I?ll write more about this once I actually get started with it. If anyone would be interested in helping me with this, I?d be willing to split profits that?d be pretty cool.
I want this site to mostly use games that I?ve built that way people won?t be linked to other arcade sites from their games. This is definitely going to make it a bit more challenging, like I mentioned earlier, I?ve already created a game in this niche for my other site so I plan to just modify it to include new levels/graphics I?m not very good at creating graphics so I?ll probably find some open source ones, which should speed up the process. In an ideal world I?d like to make a game a day for one week and then focus on seo and make a game every few days until I feel I have a decent amount. Unfortunately the world is not always so ideal so instead my goal will be to make a game every other day, starting tomorrow since today I need to focus on building the site and making it look nice. Each game will also have a long description, probably around 300 words but if possible I?d like to make it longer.

Lastly I?ll try my best to keep this thread updated and answer any questions that are asked. I?ll try to update it everyday but I might miss a few if I?m really busy that day, or I simply didn?t do any work on the arcade. I?d like for this project to be done by June 30[SUP]th[/SUP] (That gives me around 2 months) if it works out well, I?ll probably repeat the process with another niche, which I should be able to do in a much shorter time frame since I?ll have a lot more experience. If it doesn?t work out I?m sure that I?ll learn a lot and I hope you can too. Sorry for making this so long, if you read it all you?re pretty amazing.

    Tl;dr

Now this is something different. I was thinking of starting an arcade site like a year ago but kind of gave up and went in a completely different direction.

I would just suggest looking into gaming-related advertising networks like EpicGameAds, Ad4Game and Ad2Games. There are others, just use Google. I remember EGA having the biggest CPM for popunders, like $5-$12 for HQ traffic or something like that.

Also, try utilizing social traffic, especially Tumblr and StumbleUpon. Those two could be great for promoting your site and bringing massive traffic.

I might be open for a JV if you're interested. You making the games and me doing the marketing part. I have a lot of experience in bringing in Tumblr, Youtube and Reddit traffic. I also have appropriate bots. PM me if you're interested.

    Update:
So today I installed wordpress, found a theme that I like and I could easily modify into an arcade theme, the problem with using existing arcade themes is that there are a million other arcade sites that look exactly the same, and it looks very unprofessional. I spent most of the day modifying the theme to look the way I want, and it?s been going well. If anyone is interested these are the plugins that I?m using to actually run the arcade.

Kimili Flash Embed: Let?s me embed flash games/movies into a post pretty simple to use.

Rating-Widget Plugin: Lets you choose either 5 star rating or thumbs up/down I decided to go with the thumbs up/down because it takes less thought to thumbs up or down, it?s easier to have 2 choices to pick from then 5 (5 stars) I also think that if YouTube switched from a star system to a thumbs up/down system there must have been a good reason.

SEO Ultimate: I haven?t looked into it much but the idea is that it?ll help me with seo.

WP Super Cache: Should help the site load faster

I still need to get a security plugin and a related posts plugin that will display the thumbnails of each post, I don?t think this will be too hard to find. I?m also going to search for a plugin that will let me change the date that posts were published automatically so that my homepage doesn?t always display the same games, when I stop making games.

Because of my other arcade I?m already signed up for many gaming-related networks, Google still is obviously the best, but due to their strict rules, and my fear of getting banned I use adforgames for all ads that are near the flash games. Google has a tendency to ban people with ads near the games. I?m also signed up with Epic Game Ads for there popunders, I use them on my main arcade but I still haven?t decided If I?ll put them on this arcade. Not sure if they pay enough to justify it, I?ll probably put it on for a few days to test a bit later.

I?ll send you a pm, maybe we can figure something out :)

I do but for these games I?ll be using a game engine that makes it a lot simpler/faster to make flash games, if anyone is interested it?s called ?Stencyl? unfortunately if you want them to remove there splash screen from your games you?ll have to buy the pro version, it?s a small price to pay though if you use it a lot.

    Thanks guys really appreciate it.

I was kind of hoping my tl;dr encouraged people to read the whole thread, but I know what you mean. Maybe I?ll update it in the future

Well i would suggest signing up with a few CPA companies also. Take PPSignup offers on games, and use those banners on the site. It can pay nicely and you get to choose what ads are on the site. It can be used together with the ad networks so its easy extra money.

    Update:
I was hoping to have a game done by the end of today but unfortunately I was busy most of the day with school, but I did manage to start on a game, I just need to add a few more levels and it should be ready, I?ll probably do that tomorrow, hopefully I?ll have some more time. I also searched a bit for games in my niche that have little to no branding and added a few to my site so it looks a bit more populated for now. I found a related posts plugin that I liked and made some other changes to the site, it?s pretty much ready and now I can focus mainly on creating some games. I?ll probably spend this whole week creating games and filling my site with content.

The problem with CPA offers is that they work great if you?re offering something that the person can?t get anywhere else but because there?s a million other arcade sites, they won?t have any reason to use mine if they?re being forced to do surveys. Also many kids probably won?t be able to figure out how to complete the CPA offers. PPSignup offers on games might work, but I?d have to experiment with it a bit, if anyone can recommend a good network, I?d appreciate that.

    Update
Today I finished up all the levels for my new game, I made a logo for the site and added it to the game. Unfortunately I'm having a problem with the game and for some reason I can?t hear any of the sound, I?ll try and figure that out tomorrow. I also wrote custom descriptions for all the games currently on my site and played around a bit with the formatting.

How's this project going? I have a great domain I've thought of matching with a gaming forum/arcade. Curious how your journey is going!

Yea I saw some thread about an arcade template site just now and now i'm just going around BHW trying to decide if it is worth while getting back into the arcade game, I used to use PHPARCADECRIPT but they died somehow and are no longer around, i have my official license copy still, may pop it back online.

So it's been a few months now, how goes it OP?
