BTJunkie shuts down....

Oh, wow. What a weird start for a year indeed.

Well, time to blow the dust off of my IRC client and renew my newsgroup subscriptions.

these are not coincidence all related to sopa and megaupload shut down

Yep, alot of these sites are are not feeling untouchable anymore.

:sadwavey: BtJunkie

The fact that tpb is a swedish site, it helps them (i dont know where btjukie was from though).

I feel sad. It is the first site I used for torrents when I began to use torrents.

This is related to SOPA/PIPA in that the feds are trying to show the world that they are going to put the smackdown on piracy, whether or not the public likes it, and regardless of whether new laws are passed. The timing of the MegaUpload arrest so soon after the major protest was by no means coincidental. They are flexing their muscles, basically telling the public that they can take their protests and shove them. The FBI isn't in the business of listening to the public, they're in the business of arresting people and ruining their lives - and business is booming.

BTJunkie was afraid, with good reason, of stuff like this:

Code:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-16544335

This poor guy is being prosecuted by the US for merely linking to copyrighted material. The US government is on the war path right now, and you don't want to get in their way. Once they target you, even if you manage to ultimately beat the charges and stay out of prison, you will have spent years awaiting trial (either in jail or out on bail), have obscene legal bills, and even if you get your site back at the end, it will be long dead by then. They are trying to make the punishment for simply getting on their radar - even if you ultimately win your case - so draconian that people will simply shut down on their own. It appears to be working too.

I think the FBI going after these people is a good thing, it just goes to show that they don't need sopa/pipa.

The simple fact is that the entertainment industry is not going to stand by and allow there content to be stolen without a fight. People need to get that through their heads, and really people be honest here, would you do lie down without a fight if it was your content being stolen? I have seen how people flip out on here when someone copies your landing pages, and rightfully so, how is that any different than downloading music, movies or software. To be clear I am not criticizing anyone for using torrents, just saying there are 2 sides to this issue and its time to face reality.

Really it comes down to which would you prefer, have the FBI prosecuting people for blatantly violating US Copyright Laws or have them pass a SOPA like bill where they can simply take websites down at will with little or no judicial review?

Id have the FBI prosecuting real crimes like murders, rapes, kidnapping, illegal aliens, heavy drug use not silly waste of my tax dollars because some cry baby execs cant make a working business model.

Get over it! Trackers like skidrow, h33t, Reloaded, Razor1911 will not fade, they know the buissness well! They hacked Ubisoft in 3 days!

You are right but we talk about billions not some tax dollars!

Could you mess up facts any worse? Try adding some lolcats, maybe a bit of dubstep and I guess you're there....

Most of the time Murder is prosecuted under State law as well as rape and some kidnapping. Illegal aliens do not really fall under the FBI's jurisdiction as well as heavy drug use.
