BST Approval content is boring

It's over a year now I've noticed the Marketplace approval content is almost the same and boring.

There's no clue to what consumers should expect, and the statement "The quality of the product or service that I receive is what you should expect, or better. If you feel that the quality of the service has dropped significantly, please let us know via the report button." seems useless imo.

If potential consumers do not have insights into the quality you've received for the approval process, how would they ask for the same quality or better.

In the past, I've seen content writers with nice approval content and review statements, but terrible in delivering their advertised article writing.

It seems some sellers offer their best for approval sake, and sending out as sample, but give poor delivery of their service.

I believe having samples (even if it's part of a whole) directly from the admin would make the quality of service better on BHW.

The problem is that the quality of these services can be very subjective. I believe that’s probably why the review process has been made slightly less opinionated and more focused on confirming the seller can deliver what is advertised (without bhw marketplace team necessarily commenting on quality).

If you want more information on the quality then you can look at reviews from general forum reviewers.

For example I often review products in the marketplace (as a standard member, not under my role as moderator) and I try to be honest, detailed and impartial. If you look at those types of reviews you can get more of an insight on what to expect from any particular seller.

And of course if you feel like you’ve been delivered a service that doesn’t match up to what you were sold, you can always follow the dispute resolution process.

Approval text needs to be functional, not entertaining.

Sellers may still do that even if the mods share the sample they tested in their approval text.
If you're not getting what you paid for you can ask for a refund or open a dispute against them on the forum.
If you're dealing with a new seller then always place a test order and gradually increase your order quantity.

You've been here since 2017, so you might remember that the marketplace moderator reviews were more detailed from 2017 to 2020. Unfortunately, the reason this is no longer done is because we ran into too many issues when we wrote more detailed reviews. For example:

• These unique reviews were very time-consuming to write, and during the pandemic, we had too many sellers who just wanted the reviews done faster. We didn't want to compromise on performing the actual review, so we cut back on what was written down.
• Sellers would often complain if their competitor received a "nicer" review than them. These complaints in particular increased the load on our support desk quite a bit.
• In regards to samples, what we received for content creation services was added to the moderator review at one point. However, as you probably guessed, we got too many complaints from sellers saying, "You're RUINING my service because you've revealed what I DELIVERED. Now I can't even give out review copies or have others bump my sales thread with review copy requests, and now you've ruined my sales. Now you owe me the money I think I would've made! How dare you treat your customers this way!".

As you can tell, the review content these days all follow a very similar format with pre-written text. Occasionally, additional information is added, especially in the case of services we don't receive as often.

That statement isn't useless as the customer does have insight into the quality of what we received. We compare what we received during the review process to what the seller advertises. In other words, if it's not as advertised, you can report the thread or open a dispute.

The cookie cutter reviews may not be as fun or informative as the unique reviews from before, but they generally offer just enough information to satisfy most buyers, generally keep the sellers happy, and make things far easier of the marketplace moderators during the final review. A win-win-win.
