Speaking with personal experience, As a Tor operator using a Raspberry Pi as an exit node, Do NOT use it on your home network without a VPN.

Without a VPN, you will get banned from your favorite places. However, this is good in some situations to have due to the fact you have a reason for have "odd" traffic coming from your IP address.

Unless someone is peddling child porn or doing scams, what does one need an excuse for "odd" traffic. I myself have used 570GB of traffic just from uploading, so far this month on a residential plan and I have not received a notice or warning about traffic usage and what I'm doing.

Wouldn't this be super slow?
Whenever I'm using the tors for completely LEGAL activities ;):cool:;)it's noticeably slower than the regular web, however that could just be the terrible internet in Australia.

Its also much slower as well in America with cable internet, I just use tor to get around room bans on video chat sites. One site has most of their bans as just being chatroom bans, so if I use tor+another browser I can still view the video and chat in it.

DMCA requests because of pirates using TOR to download movies, music, software, etc.
Security Personnel running penetration tests/scans on computers that aren't their own.
Silk Road markets and the like.

Not to mention any spam that a person wants to send out.

If you are a certified security personal running tests on sites you get hired to do, there is no reason to hide the activity, and TOR is horrible to download movies and other media content its much easier to get a VPN for certain content.

If you read my quote, I posted "running scans/test on computers that aren't their own".

While a VPN would work, TOR usage, is generally free.

They run tests on computers that aren't their own, so yeah, his answer is valid. It's just a difference of getting paid to do it, still doesn't change what they do.

TOR = government

government ≠ anonymous
