Broken link building still doable?

Anyone have luck with broken link building nowdays?

I feel like it might be a decent idea to add on top of regular seo I do. How would you go about broken link building now?

It's still doable if you can keep your footprints low. If your site is flagged for link building you'll be taking $ from adwords, which is a big NO NO for google "quality control"(adwords sales dept)

Just out of curiosity how would google know you're emailing people asking them for links? Or do you mean they'd look at your link profile and see all your links are on link pages?

Its all doable, avoid footprints like using gmail etc for email outreach and all.

I don't think there are any footprints to be wary of while utilising the broken link building technique. Links obtained using this method are completely natural and harmless links.

In theory, broken link building sounds good, but usually the links aren't worth the effort unless you are guaranteed a link from a page with a lot of traffic. This is unlikely as webmasters of busy sites are usually informed pretty quickly about broken links.

You are also assuming that when you write a 500 word piece of informative content in advance of contacting the webmaster, it will be accepted when it might not. Then you have to start all over again.

For me, all that effort for the 'possibility' of getting a link isn't even close to worth it. Like I said, it looks great in theory but I've never seen proof of anybody actually implementing it with any success.

I tried this before, but did not get many responses. Maybe I have to try with a different email copy. What did work for me, was to do it locally. I went thru last year's local phonebook , and started going to the websites on the ads. You have no idea how many 404's I found. So I went straight to their shops/offices, and offered to help. So, I managed to get several backlinks, and some new business in the process.
