Note: I did not invent this method, this is just something which is working really well
to increase a site's ranking naturally, and without any penalization.

This is one of the most powerful SEO method on the internet gaining a lot of attention and traction recently.

I'm blowing the lid off this one so everyone can get a start on it and figure out how to best gain from it.

If you start now, I guarantee you will outrank ALL your competitors in 90 days. Just keep a journal everyday,
and don't give up. Post your questions here, etc.

Everyone will get different results depending on your seed list.

What is your site about? Is it gambling? or Auto Insurance?

If you're in a heavily competitive niche, there's opportunities for other sites to want to link to you
as in any heavily competitive niche, there will be a trove of information for new readers.
You can't win with just GSA or regular authority links. You need links from authoritative sites,
and you will permanently defeat your competitors. (This is the holy grail of white hat link building)

Just 1 link can boost you up 10-20 spots over your competitor, so it's well worth it.

Prerequisite:
-Your site needs to look professional
-Long list of reference page
-Method to mass scrape lists

1. Make a list of long sites with reference pages

I use any of the following footprints

inurl:.edu inurl:links

inurl:links + keyword

inurl:links.cfm + keyword

If the page appears on the 1st-5th page on Google, it probably
has authoritative to be up there.

Set your settings to see 100 results, turn off instant suggestion

Scrape all the URLs

2. Load the links onto Xenu Link Sleuth to find Broken Links

Use 5 level deep setting, and multi thread.

or check each page manually with:

Google loves link diversity, and links from any of these sites will make your site recognized as an authority player!

3. With the broken links, create pages on your website, with content.
How do you do this? Go to Archive.org and grab content that is relevant
from broken link. Should take you just under 10 minutes to set up the content.
Add some more images to make it good, and even videos. (10 more minutes).
For twenty minutes, you have some quality information related to your niche,
which Google will also like.

If a site was linking to them before, then the quality is good enough where they'll
probably re-link to it again. It's just a matter of contacting the webmaster,
and they WILL respond because they don't want a dead site.

Contact the webmaster and explain to them their link is broken and show them your site and say you have a replacement link

Result: You gain natural links to your inner page which Google will give your site credit for and increase your site's
domain and page authority! Eventually you'll start ranking for a variety of keywords!

I must admit this is new to me. Earlier i came across a similar method in which we were supposed to notify webmaster about any dead link in their resources page and then ask for a linkback just as a good gesture.

But now in this tutorial we are adding specific content before notifying them so chances to get a backlink is very high in this method.

I've heard of this method but never knew how it works until you so kindly illustrated it in detail for us. Much appreciate the share.

Bullsbears, Hmmm you must trade stocks :)

That's right - adding specific content to what the original content will help increase the chance of receiving a link back!

That's right! Easier to follow now!

A blog post on Backlinko was published highlighting this same method.
A follow up most was also published when one of his readers succeeded in getting same authority links for his e-commerce site.

Now you bring this to BHW....

We need more users to bring more ideas to BHW!

I do not read any other blogs - all ideas I hear from other friends and I see it working

And these methods make good money for me :D

Excellent method, will try this for some few websites that is dancing on serps. Thanks OP

Excellent Method!

Though this will consume much more time then any other method, but seems highly efficient and pure White Hat :D
Gotta try it sometime.

I've first seen this method in a Video of Wil Reynolds at Affiliate Summit 2010. This guy has some more tricks up his sleeve. You should check out his other videos, especially those where he allows questions.

I think this is the video:

Edit: AS 2010 and other video.

What other strategies does he show?

Thanks for pointing out this nice tip, I've seen it around before but haven't tried it until now.
I am finding a lot of broken "delicious.com" broken links and when I go to them, I see that Delicious has moved to a newer domain name.
Can we do anything with these links?

Also, I'm in a pretty comp niche, what other ways or footprints can I use to find higher PR sites I can check for broken links.

Thanks,

Wylie

Yes if you can register those domains, do they have good DA/PA?

If so, then just 301 or build a blog and point a link to your site

That should give you some good link juice

How are you finding the broken delicious links?

You can try checking links that come from other authority sites and use their inurl: as a footprint

No, I meant they are from delicious.com, but now I see they are just a redirect type of link.

SO you mean, if my niche is lets say "acne" I would use > inurl: acne < as a footprint, then choose each search result and check each domain one at a time?
