Broken Backlink and Lost / Dead (?) Backlink

Just to clarify, a broken backlink is when the domain linking to ours is no longer accessible, while a lost backlink is when the domain that was linking to ours has deleted the link or removed the content. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

How do both of these impact our domain, either positively or negatively? For example, in Ahrefs, if the overview shows 100 backlinks while the 'all-time' count is 150k, is this a bad sign? please enlighten me

what do you mean?? and also i don't have a premium semrush account haha
i just checked some aged domain from GoDaddy , where it has 100 backlink but 'all-time' 140k , it's a huge gap

If one or two backlinks are broken or removed, it's usually not a big deal. However, if many backlinks to your site are removed, it can have a negative impact on your site's performance. If you don't need those backlinks, you should disavow them on GSC.

Of course it's a bad sign. The backlink's history is essential for SEO. You should have clean links profile

Just imagine 1000s of people referring to your service regularly and then now they are all gone without any words. What will people think? That how Google algorithm considers your site

If the links are broken it might be a technical reason as the website is undergoing any On-site works or hosting issues but if the lost link means your Anchor text and the site URL you have placed in the article were removed or else the entire article was deleted

If you want to fix them you can contact the seller or site owner to fix it

Because broken link makes your site a high bounce rate so try to fix them asap

so by summary of these answers, its better to have a small gap backlinks with the 'all-time' rather than high backlinks but there's a huge gap , right?
if there were 2 choices, A with backlinks 800 with all time 1k but , and B with 2k backlink with all time 10k , lets say in this case both backlink is not spammy one , what would u guys choose?

the number of backlinks is irrelevant, it's more about the RDs,
you can have 100K of links from some random website,

websites lose links all the time,
especially the expired & auction domains since they were inactive for a period of time,
losing spammy/worthless links won't be a problem, but losing some decent ones will surely devaluate your website,

you can always double check the lost links in ahrefs & semrush,
filter the links by lost/inactive and they should be there

First look at their referring domains, what kind of domains they have currently, and decide. Links from authority sites and niche-relevant sites make it easy
