Broad niche site author question

So I am making a new site in a niche that has a few sub niches. For example a site about summer activities that has sub sections like swimming, surfing, wakeboarding etc.

I am writing all content but am curious if it's best to have one author for the entire site (will be using a pen name) or multiple authors that will take on a specific sub niche.

For example.

Author 1 only writes about swimming, has an author bio talking about how long they've been swimming etc.
Author 2 only writes about surfing, has an author bio talking about how long they've been surfing etc.
Author 3 only writes about wakeboarding, has an author bio talking about how long they've been wakeboarding etc..

The idea is to kind of establish a sense of topic authority with the reader. Rather than one person writing on all these topics, would it not be better to have multiple authors that stick to a certain topic. Or does it even matter at all?

Sorry if this is confusing, I tried to explain as best I could.

it won't matter. If you can afford hiring writers that are experts on those topics it will obviously help increase the expertise and authority of your site in the eyes of viewers first, and then in the eyes of google second because google is blindly in love with user behavior, so if your users see you as an authority and visit your site time and time again, so will google see you as authority and reward you with even more traffic and better rankings.

But, until you get enough traffic to justify increasing your site's expertise I don't think it matters that much. Just get organic traffic consistently first and then you can work on improving other things you believe might be wrong with your site

If you are able to create and maintain multiple personas, every one with his/her own style, it is good. But you need to be consistent then, let all personas evolve, they will have their own pasts and futures, the articles must be consistent. Also, your visitors start to write you emails soon and they will be writing to that particular person, you will have to keep the story going, communicating with people from the particular author´s perspective, etc... it is not easy.

Since Google is making a big deal about the issue of authority, starting off with the EAT update, I think that your idea of multiple subject matter expert authors is a good one.

The key is to make sure that they are consistent and that their bios add credibility to the topic areas that they cover.

It’s also a good idea to break down as many different parts of your blog into more granular subject areas as your content base grows.

You can probably get away with maybe three or four categories, but as your blog expands its topic coverage, you also need to make sure that your expertise claims keep up.
