Exact match isn't as good as it once was. With Google's recent (last 4-5 years) focus on search results fulfilling the searcher's intent, EMD's aren't as strong in the SERPs.

That's not to say that they're useless, but in my opinion, between these two options you're better off going branded & targeting an entire keyword topic.

You are right. But still EMD gives the significant impact on ranking when you properly use it with other factors,

I find EMD's to be great for local SEO. Domain names such as for example pcrepairstockholm.com that are supposed to be narrow and based around a small amount of long tail keywords.

If you want to have an authority site though, it's not the best option. Imagine creating a site with the domain name bestheadphonesforsmallears.com. Your topical authority is very limited from the start and bigger/broader headphone sites can easily outrank you as you are not considered an authority for the lack of content.

Branding because:

1) Exact match is no longer important
2) Conventional SEO is dying and you need to have a website that can still work well and be valuable even if you aren't getting your views from search engines.

I agree and in some cases, shorter EMD domains can be brandable.

I think EMD are still used for ranking if it is used in a right way and google never bat an eye unless it's spammy.

Yes, branded domains can't be listed in local SEO, while EMD's can and maybe that's an advantage we can use it for our cause.

Branding is very useful and it requires resource to rank the non branded keywords and yes there is always some risk in SEO of a major change disrupting rankings and constant google updates which no one can predict.

+1 for this.

While I personally believe that EMD's are not that necessary for SEO purpose, if you get one will not harm either. Just that you do not be over reliant on it for ranking purpose.

True, it's all in our hands and how to use it wisely either EMD or Branded domains

According to my Knowledge ,

On Branded domains the pros are they have unique identity that are memorable for users in which they can recall easily. But at the same time if you look on cons , if you establish a new brand it will take more time to get its visibility and attain its identity.

For EMD's the pros are they use keywords, that directly match user's search queries that can be clicked often (re-visit) assuming it is relevant.
But on cons, they lack uniqueness and are sometimes less memorable for users.

you can use branded/copyuright domains but for short term projects. like promoting replica nike shoes in google ads using say domaion nikeshoescheaphere.com but for short term as they can claim it back and you can lose it

Branding, branding, branding.

Good call mate, staying out of controversy ;)

Hi @RMX I do agree with @PHPInjected in my experience Branded Domains will be the best pick when comparing with EMD.

Exact match or Partial match if you're working on local SEO and that too when targeting only one city like newyorkaccountants.com , otherwise if you're targeting multiple cities then you will obviously have to go for a branded domain name.

Similarly, even if you're creating a micro niche website, let's say water purifiers, then it's better to go for a branded domain because the site will be easier to sell and even if you don't want to sell it on and keep working at it then it will be easier to let's say cover air purifiers on a domain called purifyinghub.com then on a domain waterpurifiershub.com

I would say brand + partial keywords. In my years of experience, still keyword domains work well compared to new branded domains

If you have a huge budget and you can spend years on marketing then of course you can go with branded domains

But if your budget is low and you are a team of few people then go for brand + partial keyword domains

And, If you are looking and doing a project for the short term and want to make money online then do it in EMD domains It's hit or miss. Either you win or you lose. You can risk it with a small budget

According to me, Here are some Pros and Cons On Both branded Domains and Exact Match Domains.
Pros of Branded Domains - Brand Recognition, Versatility, Long-Term Strategy &
Cons - Less Keyword Relevance, SEO Challenges

Pros of EMDs - Keyword Relevance, Higher CTRs, SEO Benefits &
Cons - Limited Branding Opportunities, Reduced Long-Term Viability, Susceptibility to Algorithm Changes

I don't know, as a buyer I usually trust sites with expensive domains more easily. It may be a dumb thing to consider, but I think that if the domain is expensive the company won't risk tarnishing its reputation. For example, would you rather buy seo services from seo.com or justanotherseosite.com?

I haven’t used an EMD for those purposes in a few years. I target entire keyword topics and aim for topical authority.
