Brand new website

Hello everyone, I am in the process of launching a website. Any day now. We sell "supplements" for bodybuilders and we are looking for the right and affordable ( until we build a customer base) strategy to market the site. It's primarily supposed to have 90% of the traffic come from one country. There is a lot of information here on backlinks and I have analyzed our competitors. Some have as little as 2000 backlinks and are in the top 3 for a specific keyword yet others have 5000+ and garbage ranking but are still in the top 5. I also heard that getting cheap backlinks 3000+ for like 60USD is not a scam and does not hurt your ratings but people say it does to overcharge you for the same stuff. I don't know too much about this stuff but I am here to read learn and pick something that can get me started. Cheers
