Wondering if anybody has any actual experience with bounce rate affecting SEO.

There is a WP plugin called 'reduce bounce rate.' It pings Google Analytics every ten seconds somebody is on a page so, if someone goes to your website and stays on a page for 10 minutes and then leaves, instead of a bounce, it will show a user who stayed for ten minutes.

It sounds like a cool plugin but, really, I don't care what Google thinks my bounce rate is unless it affects my rankings. Thoughts?

Hi,

I know this plugin and use it myself. It does what it says which is getting the right data into GA.
The technique that is used by the plugin is mentioned on a Google Page where they explain this technique. Since it is Google themselves who came up with this the plugin is safe to use.

Not everyone in SEO agrees bounce rate matters, but it may be a way of Google to use their users as quality testers (pages where people quickly bounce is probably not very good).
I believe that Google does NOT look at a website's analytics, it merely looks at user behavior on its own search results. They don't need to look at your analytics, they only need to look at user behavior on their own sites.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, my bounce rate is like 70% i would like to reduce it. Does it affect SEO? I know the lower bounce rate will effect positive, but can there be negative effect ? Does google penalize for that?

If they can fool google then great plugin but if not then it's just a waste of space in your site

I don’t think just sending events to GA is going to do anything but mess up your data. If users are sticking around that long, maybe you want to measure it, but I highly doubt it affects rankings.

Google can see if a user bounced quickly, because when they hit the back button they’ll now be on the SERPs. If they didn’t do that for 10 minutes, that’s already a positive signal.

Actually bounce rate is not a direct ranking factor in Google. Its just a metric that shows the quality of your content of your website. To improve bounce rate your site may need some quality content but not some unwanted plugins;)

I think bounce is a ranking factor, cause when bounce rate is higher google think this content is to good enough for users.
