Bots Dominance on BHW

What is happening recently? It's like hundreds of bots posting generic ai slop replies all over bhw.

I see you guys added 2fa, but dunno, still happening seems like.

What is the reason for all those bots? Any ideas?

The 2fa was a good measure, but the session time is very long and bots can poll the apis for authenticator. But a good first step.

Now some of the replies, or many of them, use chatgtp for translation sake , the chatgtp content itself is at times actually pretty good, especially people shopping for seo are well advised to ask chatgtp about offers, so this is a double edged sword.

More concerning is the wtb and haf sections which get flooded by generic replies at the same time stamp, with generic replies , barely contextual and obviously crafted based on what the op is asking for interpreted by a gtp llm, this is bad and half the sellers will be banned within a year, not sure if 2fa has helped here, but as a bot dev and dev, perhaps the site can restrict bot access to these subdomains for bot traffic, it's not valuable for seo anyway, or implement a mandated 5 minutes delay before these ops can be replied to, that's throw the most amateur bots right off the rails and they would have to show some craftsmanship once to get around that.

2FA does nothing to stop botting, what are you even talking about? One pip install bypasses this.

Literally nothing you can do automatically can prevent this from happening basically. Only report button and moderators can "stop" it. And also as the member above said, many people use chatgpt now to better explain what they want, which is okay kinda.

Yeah I've said, a bot can resolve 2fa.

If you wanna be overly pedantic and bean counting, let me return you the favor....a pip instal doesn't bypass jack shit. Takes a little bit more that that.

And yeah it’s kinda true but all the flow of absolute useless ai-ish repurposed information from other replies is just making me crazy.

Or maybe I’m just getting old and should start saying “it was better in the good old days”

Give us some examples.

The amount of bot replies is actually decreasing compared to couple of weeks back. I think the mods are doing a good job at detecting and combating it.

The main point is there are a lot of new accounts, no avatars, no value in replies, all replies generated with ai by rephrasing already existing replies (maybe not via API but obviously answered using help of ai at least), no purpose for such replies either - that's why Im frustrated a bit - I used to come here and talk with real people who have real opinions and now its just generic stuff all over the place.

Maybe the whole internet is like that right now, I dunno, but I care about this place.
