Bot Traffic solution?

I started a wordpress blog website where I published educational blogs. I did SEO keyword research, used AI for assistance but wrote the content myself to keep it human and authentic. I also fixed UI/UX issues, and the site started ranking well with good performance—or so I thought.


The problem was, my website was getting bot traffic. I received thousands of spam comments from strange usernames (which I assumed were Chinese bots). Why does this happen?

Do you look at your competitors if they receive same traffic? Or do you belive it was a competitor?

No i don't believe it was a competitor as i got comments on the blogs in large volumes from different accounts. I still can't figure out what i was doing wrong to get that much Bot Traffic.
 
Use cloudflare waf and cloudflare turnstile on the comment forms. That will end the comment spam and significantly reduce bot traffic from using server resources

It happens when bots target open comment sections or forms for spam activity using automated scripts. Strengthening filters and tightening settings usually reduces it
 
You can’t fully stop bot traffic, but you can filter and minimize it. Use Cloudflare firewall rules or Google Tag Manager filters to block known bot patterns. Also, analyze logs for suspicious IPs and use Bot Fight Mode or reCAPTCHA to keep your analytics clean.
 
Automated bot traffic often targets high-visibility websites, inundating them with unsolicited spam and artificial visits.
To combat this, use anti-spam plugins like Akismet, enable CAPTCHA on forms, and consider strict comment moderation or disabling comments if unnecessary. Implement a Web Application Firewall such as Cloudflare to block malicious bots early. Regularly update WordPress and plugins, and block suspicious IPs or user agents. These measures will protect your site and ensure genuine engagement.

That’s pretty common, especially for new Wordpress sites. Bots constantly crawl the web looking for comment sections, contact forms, and weak security setups to drop spam links. It’s not really about your niche or keywords they just target any open site. You can reduce it by using plugins like Akismet or Antispam bee, disabling comments on older posts, and adding a reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare protection.
 
First of all check if you are using theme/plugin from untrusted source, When you are getting bad comment, thats mean you are using hacked plugin theme.
Remove them if you have, You can use hostinger hosting to prevent Bot traffic, Add recaptcha at your comment section to Prevent Bot.
 
I don't think so, this is the major issue in ranking but you can use wordfence wp plugin, cloudflare to keep your site secure from spammers
