Bot comments on my website?

I am getting daily comments from visitors who clearly are bots. Most of the comments are very irrelevant to the article but they are sometimes written in a way that they should be relevant with any article. I can only assume that these bots are doing this for backlinks to their websites in order to rank higher or even get a few referrals from my website.

This does not concern me very much, it just makes me curious what purpose the spam is for. Maybe I can benefit from it myself?

Anyway, I do not like captchas nor moderator approved comments so I will keep the comment section open for anyone and just remove the spam content. I am not sure how those bots works, but is there a chance to get rid of most of them by changing the HTML class attribute for the post button? As I said I am not sure how those bots are finding, filling and submitting the comments but I am sure someone in here knows exactly what I am talking about.

Scrapebox is the most likely culprit. Yes it is done for the backlinks, my opinion is a lot of low quality backlinks aren't as good as a few good quality, relevent ones.

If you are running Wordpress then it comes with "Akismet", simply get a free API key and it will prevent the most common spam comments as it has a huge network that protects from regular spam. Another thing to do is force all comments into moderation, the reason a lot of comments are being made is because you have approved a comment.

If scrapebox is used, spam links are sent out, then the websites that have been spammed are monitored to see if the link they posted has gone live, once it goes live they know the website is highly likely to approve further comments - so they send more spam.
