booting with 2os 2 hard drives

i have win7 on 1 hard drive - and xp on a 2nd
bios shows both drives, both drives listed as master
and dvd drive as secondary

but

at the moment i can only boot 1 to get into 1
example i am not given the option to boot xp or 7

so if i have just 7 drive plugged in 7 drive will boot same with xp
but if i have both it boots 1 without an option to choose the other
on boot up.

what am i missing,

On the back of most hard drives there are plastic pins that are aligned in a series, and there is one set of pins that has a plastic cover. By default the plastic cover is on the first pin set. All you have to do is remove the pin (I usually use tiny pliers because I have big hands) and then put it back on in the next pin slot to make the drive the slave drive. And from there it is just setting it up in your bios. Hope that helps.
 
so your saying having the 2 hard drives as a master each and dvd drive as slave
is why it isnt offering both drives as a choice on the boot up yes
i just went with how the bios set them but ill try your idea ty
 
There can only be one master, you need a grub or bootloader too.
It does not matter if you have one drive or ten, the bootloader will take care of where you have installed your OS.
 
from what ive read only was to boot 2 hard drives is by swapping there
order round 1-2 in bios to load the 1 u want....

other way is have 1 os - like win7 - make a partition load xp on the partition
then do the boot loader so your prompted which os u want 7 or xp
problem i have with that is, if i ran a partition from7 with xp on it
boot loader needs xp/sp2 to install the loader, i wanna run xp/sp1 for port scanning

anyone confirm it works xp/sp1

You can not install XP and then win7.
Also windows needs its own partition while Linux does not. True. I forgot about that.

wilson something else i just noticed. not having installed xp for about 4yrs
i notice twice on the install my xp is skipping 2 things. see video from

skipping windows update option - and isnt checking internet connection
just goes right to desk top on install

It has been awhile since I installed XP on anything, can't remember if those options were originally on the XP disc or if they came after XP SP1. Or it may just not appear because support has ended for XP.
