No not really. Not unless your traffic comes with the Alexa toolbar or reporting cookie.
Alexa can be gamed slightly, but the only hits it really counts are from people still using the toolbar. It then extrapolates this to what it considers is your real traffic figure (and given how few people use the toolbar these days - that's becoming more and more of a guess)
There are some ways to push your AR - but all of them take a little hard work. Getting below 100,000 is a pretty good first target.

Install the toolbar on your computer. If you have several computers install it on them as well.. Have them running Firefox/explorer and chrome and leave your sites on in the background..... I do this when I start to build a site.....within 2 days the alexa rank tumbles.....obviously if you can do this at different locations even better

I guess making an Alexa rank Bot could be done. Remember Alexa derives it's stats from a very limited data set. If you get 1% of traffic to your site with Alexa toolbar - I'm guessing that would be about the limit. So suddenly spamming 1000 Alexa registered visits in a day to a site that only gets 200 visitors a day in the first place may lead to you getting ignored.
But adding 5-10 a day here and there? That would be a good application.

One of my sites went from 4 million to 1 million and it still goes down every time I run a program that I got here on bhw. It took no work at all. Very easy and I just run it in the background and forget about it. I also use proxies from the proxy list thread on bhw.

The Alexa rank is a pure crap. I have 2 websites, lets call them website N1 and website N2:
- Website N1 receives X traffic - alexa rank ~50,000
- Website N2 receives 3 * X traffic - alexa rank ~2,400,000
The only reason website N1's alexa rank is so high is because it is in a tech niche. I.e. more people have alexa toolbar installed.
So if you want to boost your Alexa rank choose a tech niche and redirect traffic, it will come naturally.

I agree, people I have done work for in the past think that the alexa rank is really important and wouldn't listen when I told them it depends on the niche etc.

So basically a bot is needed, who runs several browser threads, having toolbar installed (inside each thread), using proxies and some other techniques as well. you can use traffic exchanges sites and after a month your Alexa rank will be boost.
