What happens when that 301 expires though? Wouldn't all that anchor links disappear away from the money/original site?

The 301 would not expire because you would keep it up.
All your anchors should be built to the money site once the 301 is indexed with the 1,000+ word article.
So even if the 301 disappears, you still would retain your anchor links, and you would simply 301 redirect another aged domain with the same method.
Bobby, I have a question. I am new with buying expired domains etc & with GoDaddy.
I followed the link you showed in the OP for GoDaddy auctions. I then made a search for keyword in domain + domain age and hit search.
I found an 11 year old domain up for grabs. I did not check PR like you said, just focused on age. It was in the same niche as mine and 11 years old so I thought I would grab it.
It said $9.00 (which I stupidly assumed was the total cost to register for 1yr haha) and ended up paying the $9.00 + 1 year domain fee.
I bought it several hours ago but when I usually register domains, they're instantly read to use pretty much. Why is this one taking longer. Do the domains in the link you gave in the OP need to 'fully expire' first before they hand over the domain to you? So the money GoDaddy took is there to secure the place if it isn't re-contracted by the original owner - or have I 100% got it now (it was a buy it now) and just waiting for GoDaddy?
Also, are there any other registrars out there providing a similar Auction type facility. I don't like GoDaddy, but if it's my only choice then I will use them more.

Its normal there is a few day wait when purchasing domains in the auction if you look at your bid history or account info i will tell you the release date in which you can use the domain.
Thanks for your help. Just to clarify, is the image below where it says "Status" the day it will clear? I am new to GoDaddy and the interface but cannot seem to find anything anywhere.
It could be me, but I am thinking the "status" is the thing you are talking about. I found it under bidding -> won.
If so, I need to wait around 6 days which sort of sucks - but no biggie. Now that I know I would try and buyer domains that are ending sooner. Does this mean the owner still has 6 days left to buy (and thus I get a refund from GoDaddy?)
Also do GoDaddy registered it immediately for me so that the whois doesn't get updated back to 2012?

Good questions.
I am not a fan of godaddy either.
Usually the domains should be instant, but they have different options.
For example, some expire within a few days and you buy them, others are instant, etc.
You should contact godaddy and ask to see what is going on.
Another method is to simply go to other marketing hangout places and ask people if they have aged domains (3 months+ would work fine), usually people will sell them to you for a few bucks, but you should check to see if they are deindexed or not.
Yeah that is the release date, tbh I'm not sure on the reason for the release delay. I've purchased quite a few domains via the auction when I'm pr scouting and have never had a domain taken back so I think its just a standard wait that godaddy has.
Thanks to both of you for your help. The quickest ending ones I can find are in like 1hr from GoDaddy. Nothing ending soon.
I have not messed with domain buying and redirecting for SEO, but judging by Bobby's result this is something I need to learn!
I think I am going to look for another domain that expires much sooner. Don't want to wait that long!
EDIT: PS: Do you guys know if the whois "registered" date goes to 2012 after we buy an expired domain or does it stick to the original? Sorry for the petty questions.

The whois never stays the same when a domain expires, the new owner will be the one under the whois, which I recommend you make "private".

For ALN do you have to have a membership ($15) or can I just submit some of my blogs (3 pr5 / 2 pr 3 ) which would give me 21 points.. Once I have these points ( I believe they come daily ) Do I have to submit new articles daily to use the points - or could you explain that little better -I have read everything on ALN and find it really lacking some major things.

Yep, that is understood no problems. But if the whois updates to "first registered: XX/XX/2012" doesn't that defeat the purpose of the aged domain? Or am I missing something?

In that case, the registration date will stay the same.
So if a domain was bought in 2007, and it expired, and now you buy it, it will still be 2007; this does not change.

You have to have a membership for $15 per month, that is a requirement for adding blogs up to 30 into the system.
They have a free membership, but I forgot how that worked. I think it is up to 3 or 5 sites, not sure.
The $15+ per month membership will only get you 1 point per day, which means 1 article submission per day. However, if you add your own blogs (recommended) that are at least PR2+, you will get way more points.
Yes, you have to submit articles daily or your points will expire.
So if I have 77 points today, and I do not use them, tomorrow they will be 77 again, not 77 + 77. The points do not carry over.
ALL articles that you submit have to be unique or spun to at least 75% uniqueness (recommended).
You can target 3 sites at once per article, and each article gets posted to 15 sites, it then gets deleted from the system, but your links stay on those sites. You will then have to submit new articles for more links, etc.

By separate hosting you mean that I have to buy another bluehost account? because thats going to be expensive for me. where can I get cheap hosting for the aged domain? If anyone else could answer my questions I would appreciate. peace

What's really annoying about the domains that I bought is that they were ending in like 8HRS but now in the status page I have to wait till the 12th of Feb for the transfers.
I wish there was a way to buy an expired one that I can use immediately instead of waiting days. I'm a little impatient. Any tips?

I think I see how you could call this domination. I don't even know which would do more damage, the old domain or the high pr links? I don't even see how google could find anything wrong with this in future updates either, that's what makes it domination.
