as i was reading in another thread about marketing to mobile phone users via messaging, i have a pda with bluetooth and was going to purchase the software from here:

    riasc.net/bmforppc.aspx

but does anyone have any other suggestions, i will be using this in the car as i'm always parked in and around town centres daily so will leave the pda in the car hidden away happily transmitting my advert to all bluetooth users passing by:)

Unfortunately this will not be very effective used in the way you describe.

The method works well in cinemas and arcades etc where it is advertised and you recieve trailers etc.

Simple fact of the matter is, walking through town I will not have my phone in my hand, is is highly likely I will not notice the "IM phone is sending you a ........ accept?" message.

Hear we run into another problem, most phones require the user to authorize the receipt of a bluetooth message, while others require the sending device to be paired.

If the user notices the new bluetooth message alert message by the time the phone is out the pocket and they click accept they've probably already walked out of range.

go and set one up near a big phone shop and so when people are in there and thinking about phones you send them a messaging saying '20% off all phones ONLY online at yoursite.com'
Lots of people would walk out and do that... or even better at colleges and uni's because when people are inside the building they get bored and look at their phones and when they come outside they wanna use it.... so they will more than likely accept.

Very true, this is the only situation I've had much success with.
That and pub quizzes. Though my bluetooth antics are slightly more blackhat :p

Just given me an idea actually.....
