My site was down most of yesterday. Bluehost said it was because of a DNS routing issue.

What is the best recommended hosting service?

I had BlueHosts best package possible. Dedi with their fastest quad and they still sucked.

I switched over to https://www.digitalocean.com/ and have been pleased so far

Can vouch for DigitalOcean. Cloud based hosting for shared hosting prices. Can't beat it!

Yeah it was shocking how little the dedicated BlueHost techs knew. Last month I spent hours and hours either on hold (this is for their dedicated $300/mo. package) or waiting for them to figure out the DNS issue. I had the same problem the OP had and they couldn't figure it out. Their favorite trick is to tell you they will "call you back" as soon as it is resolved.... and of course that call never comes.

Love DigitalOcean so far.... I'll cross my fingers.... and it is 1/4 of the cost

Bluehost, Hostgator and Hostmonster are all owned by Endurance International Group. These fucktards need to feed their servers some viagra because they definitely have more problems than endurance. I think EIG also needs some network admins who know what the fuck they are doing...

Rackspace is the best but expensive, honestly after that I would say GoDaddy to be fair.
