Hi BHW,

Is there anyone have experience with growing medium like a blog? I'm looking to start medium blogging as a business and not as a hobby. I have my main account which I do for hobby but can not earn much from that. So need to find viral topics that I can write on. I can post one article per day.

How can I find the topics to write? And should I focus on one micro niche?

Start by focusing on one micro-niche. It helps you build authority and a loyal audience faster. Use Medium’s trending section, Google Trends, and even Reddit or Quora to spot topics people care about. Post consistently, but make sure each article offers value and can be shared. Over time, analyze what performs best and double down on it.

Just write about trending topics for fast views and niche content for steady readers.

But everything depends on value, if you give value to the reader, you will win on any platform.

Focus on a micro niche, create about trending, quality, engaging content, and post consistently to build your audience. Engage with the community, use Medium’s publications, and track performance to refine your strategy.

Start with trending topics — Medium favors fresh content that gets shared. Once you build traction, you can narrow down into a micro niche. Posting daily will give you enough room to test what works.

@cham rox, Medium can still work as a business, but the strategy is different than running your own blog. Since Medium already has built-in distribution, the key is picking the right topics and leveraging the Partner Program.

A few pointers:

  • Finding topics: Look at Medium’s “Top Writers” pages, trending tags, and tools like Google Trends or AnswerThePublic. You want to blend what’s hot with evergreen problems people search for (e.g., productivity, health hacks, money-making, AI, relationships).
  • Micro niche vs. broad: Starting narrow helps you build authority and followers faster, but don’t lock yourself in too much. Many successful Medium writers cover 1–2 core niches with occasional trending posts to grab extra reach.
  • Consistency: One article per day is solid, but focus on quality and engagement — catchy headlines, clear formatting, and stories that hook readers. Medium’s algorithm rewards time spent reading + claps + highlights.
  • Monetization: Join the Partner Program if available in your country. Beyond that, you can funnel readers to your own offers/newsletter for long-term growth.

Bottom line: mix evergreen problem-solving posts with a few trend-based articles, and you’ll start seeing traction faster.

Google does not give priority to medium anymore.

(x) Wordpress, for long term projects.
You can also use Medium, but I would start using WP, you can't be banned or limited from your own website

The strategy should be to focus on one micro niche where you can bring new informations and have pasion about this is the biggest thing don't try to make all kind of posts

Focus on one micro-niche to build authority, and use tools like Medium’s trending section, Google Trends, and social media to find viral, high-engagement topics.

I use Twitter and Reddit to scout topics before writing, often sparks ideas that actually perform well

Hardest part is getting started and getting readers. I find that you need to start small, most people are saying micro niche but you should pick trendier topics in the first week or 2 and then do micro niches

Hey! Focusing on one micro niche helps build authority. Use Medium’s trending tags, top stories, and tools like Google Trends to find viral topics. Posting daily is great.. just keep testing what works!
