Blogging based solely on Blog comments

I've been playing recently with the idea of using 'heat' from blog comments for a) content and b) traffic.

Do you think riding the INTENSITY of certain blog posts (as mentioned by comment number and diversity) is a good idea to SKYROCKET a blog's influence in a relatively short period of time?

I imagine social media mentions from influential niche accounts would come in handy.

Any thoughts?
