Blogger at 12

Hi. How do you know if a site has been hacked? What do you do to prevent your site from being hacked? My 12-year-old daughter just started her blog site. I want to make sure her site will be safe.

if it gets hacked, you will come to know because of its behavior. You wont be able to login or your web will get redirected to some other page or you will have hundred pages of hackers hidden in your web
you should install some generic security plugin like wordfence, hide my wp etc

There are many types of hacked sites.

Some sites are hacked and no one finds out until the botnet is activated remotely. These hackings are usually the more sophisticated type, with professionals or even governments behind them.

Other hackings are very subtle too and just place a link somewhere on your site, these are hard to find too.

And then there's the easy ones to detect, when the entire site is FUBAR and you see random text and spam everywhere.

All you can do to stay relatively safe is keep the blogging platform updated and use something like cloudflare or mod_security to block the common attacks, scanning and so on.

Give her for adoption to a tech-savvy father who won't be worried about nonsensical monsters in the proverbial closet?
