I had a virus last week on my blog that kept appearring every 2 days or so. I decided to shut down the site so none of my visitors would get the malware. While I tried to get rid of the virus, I also decided to make my site more SEO friendly. I launched the site this week and now it's not getting as many hits before I put it in "construction mode."

I know I should've re-launched my site sooner but I wanted to make sure all the virus was gone. Now I used to be first on google with my domain name and now I'm showing up on page 2.

Will I ever get back the first listing on google? Thanks.

I have a similar problem/question.

All my blogs were offline for almost 1 week due to G0daddy's horrible tech support. Now that things are finally up and running again I've noticed a large drop in traffic. I assume it's a whack on the wrist by g00gle for being down.

What is advisable to do to repair the SEO damage by being down for an extended time? Will it "heal" itself after a period of time?

I think it's temporary ranking down and it should be back to last position before your site down.
New update to your posts also will accelerate site appearance on G.

Your site will be back to same position after some time. I had similar problem :)

I cannot see that with my articles if they are down they continue up on Google.

However if your website starts to get down very frequently of course Google will slap you.
