I am interested in hearing other peoples experiences.
I started 2 sites in the same niche as a trial almost 4 months ago now. One was a wordpress blog (not an autoblog) and one was just a site with 3 articles and a sales page.
They are on separate machines and separate ips but are targeting the same keywords.
When I fired them up. the blog did well almost instantly! got to page 2 of google for a reasonably competitive keyword. Google danced a bit and then settled at the top of page 2. I added 1 article per day. Some spun but mostly unique articles (as it is a niche I am personally interested in).
The standard site was no where for a long time. So I added an article a week for most of november and now it is page 1 google.
I am not sure what is going on here. Even though I am still adding an article a day for the blog the site is out-ranking it having 1 article per week added to it.
I am thinking 1 or more of the following is happening but I am open to any suggestions.
1) google is expecting more articles per day for a blog as it is an easy system to ad posts to? not sure about this one as I have other blogs that don't get updated this often and do pretty good.
2) non blog sites are given a bit of lee way by google as they take a little more effort to maintain?
3) There are some backlinks to the non blog that are considered good by google but google is not displaying them?
Anyway I am going to stop bothering with the blog as it is alot harder to maintain and might even move some of the articles from blog over to the site. After I have deleted the blog that is and let the dust settle so google doesn't think it is duplicate content! The good thing about this is that I have ALOT of articles on the blog I can move to the site. I have literally months and months of content to add to the site at 1 article per week LOL!
ps I didn't do any backlinking to either site, I let backlinks be found naturally and both sites have under 20 backlinks showing in yahoo. Also I registered the domains on the same day with 2 different registrars. I dont think the registrar would have anything to do with the situation, although I could be wrong?
