Blog Homepage, Static or Updating is better?

Say you want to build an authority site with a blog where down the road you're ranking for some "big" keyword for your homepage, say something like "internet marketing" (just an example).

If you have a WP blog that constantly is being updated daily, is it better to have a static page that never changes that is fully optimized or just let posts update daily on the homepage?

I am just curious if constantly changing homepage content that may not be optimized for your keyword could effect your ranking for these big words.

Of course this assumes in either option that title tags etc. are optimized for the big keywords in either case, just one has dynamic and the other has static content.

Curious to your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I'd add a column with fresh content just to keep my visitors happy imo
