Long story short, I found backlinks to a .xyz site with anchor text "seo site" in my blog articles. It could have been worst.

How can I better secure my site? Do they hack in via my ipage account or do they hack my wp account?

Change your password, keep any plugins up to date, use a secure theme, and look into getting some WP security plugins.

I remember to have Wordfence installed on all my sites, keeps it safe from people who want dat link juice ;)

Keeping plugins updated is one of the most important things you can do. Most JS injections come from people failing to update plugins.

There used to be an old blog post titled how to harden your wordpress. If that's still around, it's a pretty good guide.

Also you better recover from a good backup (both db and files). Your current site is probably compromised for good.
