I'm thinking about adding a blog to my Ecommerce site to boost SEO, have useful articles for clients, targeting more keywords etc.

How exactly would you do it: Using sth. like http://www.mydomain.com/blog or blog.mydomain.com or is it better to setup an own domain for the blog? Like http://www.mydomainblog.com?

Only good blog content will impact SEO, with keywords that pointing to your shop. Internal linking also is very good. I would put it in format sitename/blog Is site speed of your website less than 2 seconds?

Basically every decent case study I've seen points at folder being better than subdomain. Google is a bit cryptic about saying that it shouldn't matter because they "should" be able to figure out if it's the same site or not. I seriously doubt they can but why take the chance?

Way back people recommended putting the blog on a separate domain because then it could get backlinks and link to the store. In reality, you just end up with two sites where neither are strong enough to take the first spot.

As per MOZ both are same. I would prefer http://www.mydomain.com/blog

Why exactly do you want to add a blog to your ecommerce site?

A lot of ecommerce sites run into issues with their blogs because the articles end up outranking their products and categories.

I thought about adding posts there like "Why you should buy xxx" or "Is xxx really worth it?". I didn't think about outranking my own products with these posts, that may be an issue.

avoid using a sub domain for the blog.
Domain.com/Blog/

would work fine.

blog.domain.com
make content
wait 36 days.
301 to
domain.com/blog
