Blog comments ?

I am currently in doubt of weather I should or not allow links on my blog comments, or if I should, if I must also add nofollow to it ?

My idea is to use a simple filter to remove links from the comments this way preventing most spam from getting linked from my site however it would still allow the text until I delete or I could make it simple delete the link.

But this would also be sort of bad for the legit users, what do you think about it and what have you done in this sense ?

I also have akismet running.

Personally I've disabled comments from about 90% of my blogs, because I want to interaction with users - just to redirect them to my money sites. However the ones that are open for comments, I have Akismet on, as well as requirement for the first comment to be manually approved by me, afterwards AA.

I know it's a bit of an overkill, but better safe than sorry.

What I have done so far is, enabled akismet, allowed anyone to post, and removed the link from author + website option and added a filter hook that disables links so if some one posts a site it will show as text only.

But am not sure if I am being too extremely with it.

I once let my blog comments on and I got spammed over 5000 comments in 6 months. It took up a lot of my hosting cpu usage that one time, i got suspended. Best advice, use Akismet and manually approve it.

And what do you guys thinks about allowing links on the comments ? Should I keep it restrict as in links will be removed or should I just make links show up as text, or let it link ?

That is considering it was from a legit user and that the link also have meaning to his comment and the page in case.

What niche is your blog in? What pagerank does it have?
If you want more comments, you would need to allow links since that helps in getting more people to comment.

Also, whats your OBL? If its pretty low, you can allow links in the comments and can add the nofollow tag. And don't forget to use akismet to control spam and keep moderating the comments manually as well.

Well site is not online yet its on gaming niche, what would be OBL ? I see I will leave it on and keep monitoring, thanks for the input.
