Blog Comments backlinks newbie question

I put an awful lot of time into using blog comments to drive traffic to the blog in my sig.

After spending a month doing it I can categorically say it wasn't worth the time or effort spent.

The only time it is worth the time is if you get the first comment on article from a blog with an alexa of 50,000 or less and even then i'm talking very low double digits.

1. Post relevant comment to the blog's topic or else your comments will be marked as spam
2. Use 30% your nake URL, 40% your keyword, and 30% irrelevant anchor texts like: click here, visit us,etc to avoid Google's panda and penguin updates :)

The commenting must be done regarding their site,, that is you are supposed to review their site or post and must leave a comment or suggestion regarding them... along with those suggestion you can place links for your site,, but make sure that you are commenting in the site which is related to your niche.
