I'm having this question lately, using scrapebox to find highly targeted blogs, that i manually comment on, but my question is really, should i use my main keywords in the comment name , or just use a fake name.

Using the keyword i can understand that will be best regarding link juice, but as far as stick rate goes, i'm pretty sure i would get a lot more comments posted if i just used a fake name (altough the link would use the fake name as an anchor).

How are you guys doing this ?

try with your keyword first. If you can see other accepted comments with a keyword inside, just use the same thing for your comment. Make sure your post is on topic.

lol, why would you use the keyword man? I just use them to index stuff so I could care less what the link actually says.

    It depends.

If you are targetting your money site, use a anchor text. If you are targetting tier 2/3 sites, it doesnt really matter because you just want to pass on the link juice, or get the tier 2/3 sites indexed.

I was wondering about this too. I usually scan the article and comments and from there i can figure out if a keyword "name" will work. I keep a spreadsheet of the places I hit and the success rate.

i'm targetting the main site (not the main url, but specific articles). I am going just with the keyword at the moment, but while evaluating other comments i see people are going for the fake name while still hitting the money site, hence my question.

On another note, does anyone risk putting the link the comment itself ? That way i could go for the fake name (increasing stick rate) and still get the precious anchor link.

I use a combination of both. For example, if my niche is books, I use names like "book worm", "book guy", "the book dude". Can only be applied to certain niches though.

I would suggest to put a name, this is just more natural, and the chance to get approved is good

I think it depends on your list. Personally I use my scraped junk lists for names and my urls to get indexed. However I use my great lists that include high pr domain and url rank for keywords/keyphrases and my urls for great results. I have begun buying my lists from an awesome source that always delivers for me and saves me time. You can scrape but time is more important to me when it comes to buying and using hundreds of dedicated private proxies. Like everything take all advice with a grain of salt. What works for one may not always be what works for others.

And make sure you realize the more on topic the better. Generic comments do not work well. I have seen people still use the default comment file and expecting results. Nobody cares about your zune :)

Like Abstroose, I do the same. If my keyword is "pet toys" I'd comment using some of the following:

    - pet toys
    - buying pet toys
    - cheap pet toys
    - best pet toys
    - mike@pet toys
    - johnny @ pettoys.com
    - etc..

After Panda, I'm a lot more careful as I had a site nailed, pretty certain due to excessive anchor text.

Also, just a suggestion (in case you didn't alread know), don't link to your money site on blogs that are too spammy. I only link to my money site if the blog has less than 50 comments. This is just what I've read around, seems like a lot of others do the same.

    Use both.

Also, as others have mentioned, try to vary your keyword. It tends to look a lot more natural in big Gs eyes.

You can also read a very nicely written article about anchor text here:
    Code:
    http://www.seowizz.net/2010/09/anchortext-not-as-powerful-new-techniques-2010.html
The article is bit older, but I think a lot of things still stand true. I agree with some things and disagree with others in the article. It's completely based on my own split-testing and monitoring.

Yea, ring worm treatment dude, might not work well. lol

I just target auto-approves so I always use keywords rather than names. If I manually post on authoritative blogs then I use a name.

    Cheers!

Well obviously if you're targeting a keyword, then you have to use your keyword. Using a fake name is only if you want to put link juice through to a 'buffer site' or 'pumper site', which in turn will gather link juice and then you can link that site to your money site with any anchor text you want :p

If it's a good quality backlink, then you should use a name to prevent the owner from removing it. If it's just a normal quality backlink, then go for the keyword. Remember, link juice is still useful even if you don't have every link with the right keyword.

Always use fake names so all your hard work in making links go waste. or use the best anchor text that relates to your site and get the most out of the backlink for seo and the visitors who see that backlink on that website.

Rest is however still upto you.
