I have a domain that is my actual name. I am wondering if maybe I can make an all in one blog. I blog about whatever I want to blog about and put it all into one.

Would this be a very bad choice? I want to get traffic of course and I am afraid google wont give me much traffic if it is an all in one blog.

Would I be better off having multiple blogs as sub-domains?

Thanks! :)

You can do this, but you might find it difficult to monetize in the long run given your content will be of fairly broad scope. The first thing that comes to my mind when you mention 'blog about everything' is setting up a site that can be used as a G news site.

Well, in my case it would have various things like tutorials on windows operating systems, wordpress tutorials, website scripts, website themes, funny youtube videos, etc.

I suppose it would focus on the software of computers and the internet mostly.

Sorry to say I think you'll have a very hard time getting traffic with that focus, if relying on GOOGLE for traffic.

Sure, it can work. Especially if you go for an overall topic/theme like computers/Internet. Some framework should essentially tie it all together.

Just make good categories and categorize and tag your posts appropriately.

This is a great way to test out different topics and see which work for you. Then build a new site on the tighter niche.

It can work. Ive done it before and got a decent amount of traffic. However, it might be hard to actually make money from it.

it seems to be a good idea. you can carry on with it. it will be a profitable venture for you. just dont forget to put great contents. that is the most important thing.

Content content content. With googles recent changes it all seems to be about time on page and bounce rates.

yes bingobob the recent change has changed the things a few but then it is all the same routine stuff all the while.

Just make quality posts and backlink, backlink, backlink.
Google will find you and when it does make sure you have something to show it. But, I'm a little concerned that is the only traffic source you are looking for. Start a Twitter account and post more than just blog updates. Create a Facebook page since you are using your name. There are many other ways to expand, go get 'em.

Well said. Harness the power of social networks. Your posts will get indexed in due time. Concentrate on building a decent user base with social networks. Hot new trends can essentialy be new keyword phrases. Catch them when they are fresh, use good content, and you will be found.

I'd do it. I mean I think monetizing it will be rough but you can blog about whatever you want and possibly grow a small fan base in which you can interact with on certain topics and then you can use your site as a funnel to other sites you may have in various niches.

I think you do not need make any sub domain, there's no reason to do that since the main domains are the same. you only need to make it good categorized, you'll still get a good G traffic

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I think I will go ahead and have it all in one blog. I have plans, for the future, to turn it into far more than just a blog. I am a website developer so I can provide scripts, templates, etc which will attract many vistors that way also. Been working on setting it up for like a week...

I plan to put WP-Robot to use as well making a few tasks autmated like funny videos off of youtube and such. I also found a nice plugin that handles all advertisement selling on the site and allows affiliates to refer people and earn some of the money as well, very cool plugin that I think will attract some advertisers.

Hi,

I think that would be fine. =) Just make sure that it is organized and that the audience will not be confused with your website =) Also, keep on backlinking the articles so that they will rank =)
