Blocking GPTBot?

Soo guys

What´s your take on this? Do you block gpt crawler or plan to?

I am considering this right now. Obviously i am not sure if i could miss mentions this way in the future.

I wouldn't for my websites. Perhaps Bing(ChatGPT or some spinoff) will become the new Google and point to sites for reference in the future. More visitors the better right? I can understand your thought process though why go to your site when this information is directly available in the query? I think Google is heading that way too.

Yes that’s my big concern for publishers in general. Of course this won’t affect all niches - but i’m sure it will become a problem if you’re working on informational sites

I am not sure about blocking GPT crawler. The decision to block them would depend on your specific needs and concerns, such as potential impacts on privacy or content discovery.

I wouldn't even block them. For what reason IMO they aren't even scraping your content any.



Just a NLM for semantic relevance.

I would block it if I had millions of traffic and a website thats easily copied. Glossary, easy small pages that can easily be rewritten by GPT.

There are a million GPT "writers" and they can take ur sitemap and just mass produce your content without doing any research, thus stealing ur content.

If GPT becomes a new crawler "new google" they would probably use a different type of crawler, and ur page would be safe. There is massive cost to index and save content, rather than learning from content. I cant even imagine how much google servers cost a day. A lot more than 700.000 USD that it takes for GPT.
