Is it ever a good idea to blast your money site directly with social signals?

I understand it's not a good idea to blast it directly with forums links, blog comments etc..But what about a couple of thousand social signals, facebook likes, twiter tweets, RSS directly, I imagine it's probably bad, so should play it safe with tiers, right?

I'm not saying this is absolute, but in my experience I've never seen Facebook likes, Google +1's or Twitter Retweets effect the SERPs of any of my sites.

The main reason for adding social signals was "balancing the backlinks profile", because those links from twitter, facebook, pinterest, etc.. are nofollow. They some times help you to derive the traffic.

I haven't seen these social signals help much either, but I think they are a great idea to do what you are hoping to...balance things out. A good website has people sharing, and +1'ing and "Liking" and all that, so I personally don't think it could hurt.

I don't know how much Google really "likes" these types of things in their algorithm though. Not all sites would have this stuff, so it's not really the *best indicator of what is "good" or bad you know. I mean, how many people are going to share their favorite hemorrhoid site? Not many.

But yea, I've never had anything negative from doing it...just didn't help much.
