This question is something that I have a keen interest in. I was thinking of using Sendgrid so I ask @Lion101 why in your perspective is Sendgrid not a good option? Can you give an alternative?
And I also ask @grinDept why is Sendgrid a good option to use in your opinion? And what do you mean by "warming up"?
The IPs have to be "warmed up" if you send a lot of mails. Sudden spikes in Email traffic trigger the spam filters. You can check the IP reputation on senderbase or senderscore. But you also can inbox with a completely new IP with neutral reputation, just not with many thousand mails. Split the recipients by provider and send a testmail every few hundered mails. If your mails ends up in spam, you have to change something. Most the time its the sender or link domain. Use some freedns here to get unlimited link subdomains.
