Blasted 2.0 Platforms vs Expired Domains links

I have a question regarding to the power of backlinks nowadays. I would like to express your opinion about this and I would like to hear from those who have tried this before, not just what you have read on a blog.

Which type of link is more powerful?

a) Contextual link in a web 2.0 property relevant to your money site (blogger, wordpress, jimdo, tumblr etc.) blasted with GSA - (PA 34 - DA100)
b) Contextual link in an expired domain relevant to your money site (PA 40 - DA 35)

I guess it is the second one...so if that is true...how much powerful it is (comparing to the first one)?

There is no measurement that someone can give you that compares these two types of links. I will take option 2 almost every time because the domain likely has a naturally strong link profile. A blasted web2.0 isn't quite as appealing to me because I don't like crap links anywhere in my tiers. Everything depends on the quality and number of links pointing to the properties. It is impossible to arbitrarily state whether one is better or worse.

I don't know how but on Tumblr (and probably others) web 2.0 are using nofollow tags on links or at least, they don't transfer PR (as ther is no nofollow tag in HTML, can it be hidden in the CSS?). See high PR Tumblr accounts, internal pages are PR0, I presume they don't send link juice. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

Second option will be much better provided you host on different ips and use who is details locked.

I would say the second option is overall the safer bet for difficult niches etc. The thing is that with blasted 2.0s you are having to deal with the many hurdles google has placed in regards to "spam links" which can mess up the link juice (if any) that passes from these spammy links

I would say try both just to add diversity, you never know whats the next animal coming from Google.

I'm kind of getting into some SEO testing, so I'd recommend you do the same. Here's a simple test.

- Find an easy keyword you are trying to rank for
- Get your Domain and Web 2.0 ready (backlinks already built...)
- Go to page 5 of the search results. Compare some domains until you get roughly the same DA.
- Throw a link to each one. See if either moves.

You may say that 1 link isn't gonna move jack. Well if you choose an easy keyword and go down the list of results it is possible to move them. It's easier IMHO to move from 55 - 49 than from 5 - 1. Just saying. Give it a try and report back.
