That's a great example of ethnocentrism. None of those factors necessarily make their culture inferior. I am an anthropology major so I guess I look at things more objectively.

I agree that they are in no way culturally inferior, but I do believe that they are technologically inferior (which I think is what he means by "left behind").

Dear God, people take things too seriously. If you want to 'save all of these lost tribes', go out and do something about it, try living with them and see how happy you are before arguing about it.

The argument wasn't about whether or not they are happy or they have a good society. He merely said they were left behind. Which they were! Sure, who cares if they're happier, the fact is technologically they were left behind. The argument of 'their tools do the job just fine' is invalid. That's not the point. Advancements are advancements - anything before that advancement is behind that advancement. These people are still using primitive tools and primitive medical methods, etc., and are therefore left behind.

Not that hard of a concept to grab. We're not arguing how happy they are or if they're fine how they are now, no one ever took that shot so stop trying to block it.

Its not impossible its just the odds of it happening are very slim. It would require a very small space craft made of a very light yet strong material,with a fuel cell with at least 1,500 ZJ incase of emergencies and to be able to return home. It would also need a very limited amount of lifeforms on board,at the most maybe 4.

That's assuming that there aren't any possibilities of aliens already in our solar system, or that have access to it via something like a wormhole. There's too much that we don't understand or know to put any label on the odds of something like that happening.

I won't get into a argument here, but I kinda envy them, look at my life I have had depression in my life in this "modern world" stemming from stress of University, work, and bills, Heck even come to my University everybody is either in their cells or laptops, even me now fucks sake, what happened to social interaction, many students in my schools are snobbish, and judgmental, I bet with these people they don't have the emotions of greed, lust, pride, etc because everyone is equal and survival is important. I bet if I wanted to talk to one of them( If I could speak their language) they would have listened to me, not I don't have the time can we please be quick crap, we may have become modern but WE MUST ADMIT, atleast in my mind something is lost, not sure what, oh well back to the monotonous routine of Axe in the shower, starbucks coffee, Mc Donalds, Coke, TV, Facebook, A Souless world, You may disagree but hey I can't respond since we are not in person, I can't see your face :coffee:

Some good points. Honestly I think that if a person doesn't know a joy, they can't miss it. The fact that this tribe was out of tune with the rest of the world means that they had their own since of life and fulfillment, some may call it naive, some may call it a good life, it's all interpretation and opinion.

But even the basic odds of a life form such as humans developing on a planet is rare. Look at earth for example,only one truly intelligent lifeforms has developed here. No other animal is able to design complex structures and technology like we can.

There really needs to be more funding for NASA its budget is only a very small $20 billion a year,when it should be at least $100 billion. And they need a much better PR team. There are millions of Americans that thing NASA and space exploration is a complete waste of money because they do not understand what it has brought has,even with its limited funding.

You're looking at the odds of a single planet out of trillions my friend. We don't know what the odds are in other solar systems.

I agree, however they're slowly taking away all funding, first with the shuttle program, next who knows what. Guess it's back to our imaginations for a while.

If you 100% took your life by the horns and did not care about dropping off the current face of society, with just a little planning and foresight, anyone here could live like them.

Even in the U.S. there are places that you can get 40 acres of wooded land for $10-$20k. Get one equipped with a fishing lake and build a cabin to survive winter. OR, go live with them. I am not being rude by saying this, but if you make the choice, you can find a way to drop out of society.

Now face reality. Our most basic need is to survive. How long can you go without medical help or a refrigerator to stock your food or fresh water to clean and drink?? Don't get me wrong, it is possible, but you would actually putting your one and only life on the line.

Now if your going to need a fridge to hold your food, you'll need electricity. And you cant leave the fridge unsheltered, it will shorten out in the rain. So you need to at least build a shack. Heck, might as well throw in running water so you keep yourself clean and sterile, plus you can wash your clothes so you don't get an infection that goes worse while wearing the same clothes for 6 months.

... Eh.. I could go on forever, but the truth is living in a modern, civilized, community with plenty of food, shelter and medical help beats living in the jungle. It wouldn't take a day out there to realize it.

Is there something romantic about leaving all this shit behind for a "simpler" life? Of course there is. But are we cut out for it? Not many of us are. There are too many ways to die out there, let alone be comfortable.

Heck, I know when I go camping in a tent for a week or go out on a house boat for a week... The first place everyone wants to go is McDonald's. And I don't even like McDonald's, but after a week of "ruffing" it... It sounds pretty damn good..

There going to be giving contracts out now since they can get alot more flights from private companies then what they are spending on the shuttle program.

Even with trillions of planets it would mean only a few planets out of those that have created life advanced or more advanced them humans.

That's good to hear, I'll have to do some more research on that.

Where are you getting those numbers? We don't have any reference to make odds from. We aren't able to look at even the closest planetary system to us to see if there's life on those planets, much less any of the other trillions. I'm just saying, we have no point of reference, we can't just assume that only a few may have life, or that no one knows we're here or has access to us. It's just all beyond us right now.

I love watching these kinds of shows on National Geographic. Remember Mark and Ollie (from UK) going to live with a primitive Amazon tribe? They were accused of faking scenes. Who cares? It was good. They prolly are on YouTube if you want to see.

LOL so now they met modern man, get a ipad, join BHW, walk down town and meet the taxman, the police, drugs, and there lives is a stuffed from then on.

The simple lives they living is much better than the hassles we have to cope with daily.

Imagine some of us, (the civilized creatures) get involved in a plain crash or something and land in a forest. Even with all then knowledge we gained we will not survive more than a couple of days.
Let's forget about the forest. If there a power failure for more than a week, then many the so called civilized humans will not want to live anymore.

In addition to what arcticfang posted, part of the reason why we are the only species on this planet with our own degree of intelligence is because if there were more than one, we'd likely kill each other.

I got the reference to 'left behind' and it made sense...from a 3rd person's point of view when you factor in the number of people, who by all accounts, live in a 'modern civilization' VS those who don't..and regardless of happiness, lifestyle, rank in society, etc.,etc.,

IMHO..."left behind", as originally quoted in this thread, would be summed up in the same view as if:

1. 6,000 people all started a 25 mile marathon race at the same time
2. 5 Hours later, runners 1 through 5,900 had all crossed the finish line
3. Runners 5,901 to 6,000 crossed the finish line 24 hours AFTER starting the race, thus clearly being deemed "left behind" by the other 5,900 runners!
