I have been lurking here for a while and I don't know how I missed this thread. What a great opening post! I think this spirit is one of the things that has fascinated me about this place (in addition to all the information). Here's my 2-cents worth.

Babe Ruth.

He hit 714 home runs in his career but he struck out 1,330 times.

Every time he swung his bat, he swung it like there was no tomorrow. You need three swings to strike out. To hit a homer, you only need one. This guy missed many more balls than he ever hit in life.

Years ago I was lucky enough to read books that showed me the principles contained in those 8 guidelines. To be honest it took me a while to get the hang of them and it was because of something else I found once that I stuck up all over the place so I couldn't help but read it.

Its easier said then done. Inless you apply the knowlege you gain its worthless. Thats why knowlege isn't power. It must be knowlege plus action and most people fail at the action part.

Take action and turn failure into enthusiasm and you'll eventually succeed. Just don't give up.

I'm so sick of certain presidential candidates telling people how much they are going to give their constituants, instead of motivating, and providing the freedom for people to make their OWN way, which is uh, what our country, (US) is based on. CAPITALISM!

Nice advice.

I just want to add that it's never good to listen to anyone who tells you that a market is saturated. It's all about what angle you attack the market with. And it's all about content, style and presentation and lots of effort. There's always a better solution or better way to do something.

You're trying to hit the ball out of the stratosphere, not just out of the ballpark :)
 
one thing bh shows you is how all the man made algos etc are so far from perfect and there is always a way to get into it. not that I'm any good at blackhat, but I have seen what I have seen.

So getting too impressed with anyone or anything is stupid. You have to find your own way and do what you're good at and stand behind that.
