Blackhat SEO to disrupt competition

Has anyone used poor blackhat methods in order to get competition banned or blacklisted from Google?

I was just thinking it'd be a pretty sneaky thing to do to employ something like a poorly made, free PBN and "spam" it with the competitors links to try and get them blacklisted.

Has anyone tried doing this and if so what tactics did you employ and what would be the best way to prevent these types of attacks from effecting you if you were ever a target.

This is negative SEO and we don't allow the discussion of it here. But it is a thing people do.

Sorry, I must have worded my thread wrong. I think it's happeneing to a domain that I currently own so I'm trying to figure out what methods they might be using and whats the best way I can try to prevent this from happening. Unfortunately I have no idea who might be doing these attacks, just that they seem to be happening (I've only used whitehat SEO and I'm being removed from google results, after competition has started gaining traction).
 
Make a list of the bad links that were pointed in your direction and disavow them with the https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main?pli=1.

If you are a new site you can be affected by this negative seo technique, if you are a bigger site its not very probable as google is smart and just simply dont count those bad links at all
 
Check your backlinks. You can get rid of toxic links with the Google Disavow Tool. (or what he^ said ... sorry, our internet is in and out this morning :p).

The disavow tool is your friend. If it's an older site, you have very little to worry about.

Oh awesome, thanks. Never even knew there was a disavow Google tool! I'll have to check into it. Yeah it's a fairly new site, which is why I'm trying to fix this. I was debating just swapping domains but they can just refocus the attack to a different domain. Appriciate the help.
 
If you have strong links, someone spamming shitty backlinks at your domain should mean a lot less. If you get a negative link penalty you can always submit a reconsideration request to Google. Like others have said in this thread, disavowing spammy links can also help, but it might take a while for your disavows to take effect and in the meantime more shitty links will be built. Keep building good links and you should come out fine.

It's a pretty new site so it looks like spammy links are being made with good links, which is the issue. Hopefully it'll stop soon and then I won't have to do as much work trying to prevent it.

I wonder if it would help to run ads on social media and adwords to get some legitimate traffic to your site to offset the malicious links. Depending on how competitive your niche is, it may not die down so soon.
