Hi folks, hoping someone can help me..

I downloaded the free trial of Article Kevo and as it was submitting to bookmarking sites I got repeated warnings from AVG of a virus named 'blackhat exploit' (can't remember the exact name but pretty sure thats what it was) Anyway I did a scan and nothing came up so I assumed it was a false positive.

Now, two days later, I try to access one of the sites I was submitting to and get the same message. Now it seems that site and two others are returning a 500 server error.

So, I have two questions.. One- have I been hacked? and two- did this happen as a result of auto submitting articles two bookmarking sites? And if so, How?!

Thanks a lot..

Wait.. you mean your site returns a 500 Internal Server Error, or the bookmark site you were submitting to?

Cause that's a game-changing detail. If it's not your website, a lot of cheap pligg-based bookmarks sites go down overnight so it's normal.

Also AVG might be aware that this tool can be used with malicious intent and therefore classifies it as a "blackhat exploit".

If it would be a virus it would clearly tell you that this is either a backdoor trojan or a rootkit, implying it's detectable.

Do you know what a 500 server error is?

Look up what the error means..

Thanks for the quick responses: I mean my site returns a server error.

I know it suggests a problem with the server and not the site, however I do have better wpsecurity plugin installed which can return that error in the event of a brute force hack for example.. That is why I was wondering if I have been hacked.

Cheers

Ok, this is really weird- Contacted the hosting company as it seemed to be a hosting issue. They say the sites are fine. Checked from two machines, cleared cache etc and used different proxies and i still get the error.
Then I noticed my favicon on one of the sites has been changed to a skull! So I tell the hosting company this and they say there's no skull. I check again and sure enough it's gone! However I did take a screenshot first so i'm not going crazy!fav1.PNG
Any ideas what the hell is going on?

Maybe the hosting company's servers were infected but they didn't want to publicize it?

I think you're right.. They have fixed the sites but wouldn't say what was wrong- just 'some issue with the server'
Anyway, fingers crossed it's all good now..

Run of the mill business practice these days.
