black hat seo vs white hat seo

If you are building any kind of artificial links to your site with the purpose of increasing your search engine ranking than you are not white hat.
It does not matter if you are building them manually, it does not matter if you are using unique content, it does not matter if you do it all yourself or outsource it. If you are building links for the purpose of gaming the system then you are not white hat.
Anybody that builds artificial links and tells themselves that they are white hat are lying to themselves.

Volund pretty much nailed it though.
The website company I work for is so white hat, its clear!
So many times I want to bust out the scrapebox and other blackhat tools and start blasting but I'm not allowed haha
White hat drives me insane sometimes. I am a strong believer in using your best resources for the job! Think about it, Why use a hammer when you can buy a nail gun and get the job done quicker?
Probably why I went to the dark side for my own websites I manage

There's three types and I think most IMers fall into the grey hat category.
White hat - genuine guest blogging, social bookmarking, social media etc
Grey hat - submitting content to blog networks, mass social bookmarking etc
Black hat - comment spamming, article spin spamming etc
