black hat equals to cheating or not?

I would agree and say that BH is exploiting loopholes. Those who say that its cheating are only mad that they didn't think of it themselves, lol. But its like someone who 'cheats' on their taxes. They only used creativity to find and exploit loopholes that already exist.

BH is getting smarter. The whole internet is full of competition and if you would want to do things the "good boy" way, you would end up going back to 9-5. If people say BH is "cheating", it depends on their own definition of that word. I believe BH is taking advantage of internet opportunities.

BH is no where close to cheating.. it depends on how you define the term "cheating" .. how about the call gurus who are promoting shitt products through email marketing and their influence; do the whitehat way but cheat the shit out of people with crap products (would whitehat become cheating too?).. ;)

Blackhat just means "I know more then the average person" and I will use that knowledge to my advantage.

Cheating? Hell no lol. Cheating is easy.. Blackhat's not, well that depends but I'd say it's doing many different things with our brains and always having to extend your knowledge..

In other words blackhat it's cheating the system, the legal way :)

If you believe everybody in the world plays fairly then you can consider blackhat to be cheating.

If you have a bit of the cynic in you, as I do, then you're just evening up the odds a bit!

Question 1. - Who are you cheating against?
Question 2. - Who sets these rules?
Question 3. - How do you know they are not cheating?

Is this argument with yourself, are you trying to justify it to yourself?

BlackHat IS NOT cheating, but rather gaining knowledge of all the options and possibilities you may have available and using them to your benefit.
blackHat IS NOT lying, stealing, scamming and other activities that harm others.

Example: You FIND a knife. Will you use it to cut the bread or to kill?

Black hat is a term that originates from hacking.
In the 80's Whitehat hackers were the ones who just pocked around systems for their own amusement and education.
Blackhat hackers were the ones who did it for profit.

Both groups of hackers were criminals, but the blackhaters were the biggest dicks :D

It might have changed a little bit since then, and I don't doubt that SEO people like to tell themselves they aren't scum, but it's what the outside world thinks about you that counts, not your own personal definition of the term.
Even if you aren't a cheat people are going to assume you are if you tell them you do BlackHat SEO (besides which the term certainly includes cheats as well as all the saintly paragons of virtue who have already posted in this thread :D)

I think it might be a controversy whether black hat equals to cheating.
in some sense, they are the same thing.
when you say searching for holes in computer programming, if someone knows it, they will make use of it. black hat seo is like making use of holes in search engine. cheating does the same thing, if there is no holes, people would not have the chance to make use of it.

I agree with you it is cheating. Trying to fool Search engines, spamming, oh yeah it is cheating.

you could look at it as helping original creator(s) strengthen their security :D

For me blackhat is cheating too. You can earn big money in short time, but if you are looking for a long term business, try whitehat. I personnally did blackhat at the beginning, then switched to whitehat :)
