I commented on a thread a while back about setting high expectations from low cost writing sources.

The universe saw fit to give me a nice faceplant worth of story.

Ahem.

I've got a pitch to do, usual stuff. Send out, follow up, 2-3 people making calls.

Decide for the first time in ages to not do the brochure myself. I've got pages of existing copy. Done 44 of these, time to step out.

Get an offer via a colleague, their supplier will do a 2-3 pager, PDF, $125, links, the works.

Great. Good price, I'd expect 300-400 for the same. maybe 1-2 hours layout, 2 on copy, 1 on links and testing. Pro art and copy is running at $165/hr in pro land.

Proof comes back so bad that work to fix = 2/3 of doing the job from scratch.

Doesn't make sense (as in the copy literally doesn't make sense).

Then it dawns on me.

The supplier has subcontracted it to Lowest Cost Off Shore, and then gets the client to fix it during proofing.

Thank you Black Hat World cos I recognized it straight away, fired supplier. I'm not paying for the job and then doing it myself anyway.

On the downside, I now have a job back that I tried to outsource. And if I had listened to my own logic, the cheap price might have warned me off it...
