What does this mean "Products or services illegal in the US or Japan" "are not fit" to be listed here?

What products or services are they talking about ? Is BitCoin illegal in some way?
What is so special about US or Japan?
What do they mean by "are not fit". That sounds very clumsy, like it was written by someone that does not speak English as a first language, is an ignoramus, or both.

The creator of bitcoin is from japan,and he doesn't want to advertise illegal products on his website.

Edit: i'm almost ready to get my second pc up and running,I got tired of trying to use linux,cause when i went to install xp64bit i got the 0x000007b blue death. All i had to do was change sata from aschi to ide.

In the $15-$20 range right now. You can get 2.5 bitcoins a week,easily with 1 pc.

The price has been fluctuating greatly over the past week. You can see the current rate and also buy/sell at Mt. Gox

Is the "mining" actually accomplishing anything? I mean, is it chugging computations for some corporation or something?

I don't understand yet who is investing in this currency to inflate it's value above dirt.

OK, but why have our computers do work to get bitcoins?

Because it's as good as any other limiting factor?

I'm just asking if the work the computers are doing and wasted electricity serve a higher purpose than creating a virtual currency.

By comparison, I suppose one could argue gold is useless and mining for gold is a waste of energy that serves no function other than producing currency...but on some level it actually has a tangible product.

Maybe google can borrow this network of computers to have it run some copyscape algorithms on the millions of sites out there...that might have some real value (well, to google at least...and they can pay for it, which gives the bitcoins a backed value)

ok guys i just set up my miner. it took about 10 minutes.

used the tutorial here to get the mining software set up:

used this one to get pooled mining set up:

used this to calculate my profitability:

i'm on a radeon 6850 ($170 card)
catalyst control center shows 95% usage at 70C, without any overclocking.
and this is getting me about 150000 khash/s, which is 150 Mhash/s
plugged it into the calculator and it says i'll make about $5/day.

everything appears to be functioning properly, so i'm gonna let it run for a while and see what happens.

If you join a free pool site, why would they send you money? Your not giving them anything other than registering

I just did a price check at newegg and the lowest priced 6850, 6870, and 6950 video cards all have similar performance/price ratios. The cheapest one is a 6850 at $140.

A PCI 2.0 video slot on your mother board can hold a 2.1 video card (as a side note...I had to look it up). And some mother board can hold multiple cards, which can multiple the speed the "mining" (mine only holds one)

I don't know what other factors effect the speed of mining though, so other specs on the cards might be worth looking at as well. I saw one that advertised "more energy efficient" so something like that might be worth getting.

Intriguing though...I hadn't heard of bitcoin before.

I discovered bitcoins when the newstory broke about the drug site. So i figured out how to get mining and have been doing so off and on ever since. With a laptop.

I sold .33 bitcoins on tradehil .c*m and made a little over 6 dollars. Once i transfered the money to my bank card thus proving that i had actual real money I worked up an investment proposal. Next week I make a 3 hour drive to see about getting the funding to build my own mining farm.

At minimum investment level 10k equates to about 6k per month after power costs are considered. Return will happen after about 44 days

I configured a list of systems that would cost 137400 dollars and they would be paid for in 37 days.

Now for all of our "economists" out there I would say that perhaps there is a bubble right at the moment but after it went down from 30/ BTC and I started mining when it was 11/ BTC it has climbed back up over 19 now. This is not something that just appeared last week and it is not some sort of pyramid thing.

I just wish i had known about it sooner.

so i just tweaked the settings slightly.
fully overclocked the card and manually set the fan speed to 95%.
temperature is 65C

overclocking increased the speed from 150 MHash/s to 175 MHash/s.
which increases my estimated profit from $5/day to $5.90/day.

looking at my stats, i already made about $0.20
lol =P

I have a sad video card (ATI HD 4675) and I'm getting about 33 Mhash/s, which is about 10% of what a decent ($175) video card would get. Too bad I didn't know about this when I put the system together a few months ago.

On a good note, it only uses my video processor, so I still have three copies of SB running on the same system.

Anyway, I'll see what happens, and if it pays out at all I think it will be time to upgrade the card to something better

you have to add the flag settings for your card,and it should increase it to at least 200Mh/s.

The ATI 4675 looks a little oddball; the ATI 4670 seems to be more common. Here's a link to the ATI 4670's NewEgg has for sale:

The price difference between the "good" video card and the "bad" one is a factor of 2 or 3. but the post (quoted) claims a performance difference of 5+ (30 MHash/sec vs. 150+ MHash/sec) which sounds good initially, but my experience in hardware is that you never see performance differences this dramatic. 10%, 20%, 30% faster (maybe) for a 200% - 300% price difference. Usually the performance/cost ration is tilted the other way, not 500% more performance for 200% more money. That number should be closer to 20%.

That's been my experience. However, they say that something about BitMining uses the Video Card better than the CPU. I also know that operations that break encryption are also better performed on Video Cards, so that lends some legitmacy to the claim that Video Cards are somehow special.

My issue/question is with these ratios, and how critical it is to get an expensive Video Card ($175.00) vs. an average priced Video Card ($75.00), If Video Card quality is so critical to BitCoin mining, then BitCoin miners ought to be Video Card experts, and should easily be able to address these issues & questions. Otherwise, I would conclude they are a bunch of average Users walking around repeating the so-called technical information that the last idiot told them.

I run into these kinds of people all the time. One group has no real substantive understanding of the technical details of their situation (a good example is over-clocking, another is repair) but they repeat some isolated facts as if they actually know what they mean, when all they did is read it "somewhere on the internet". Another group actually tries to portray themselves as being technically qualified to discuss certain topics, when if in feact they are on a massive ego-trip, and use the occasion of someone else's ignorance to make themselves appear to be something (and someone) that they are not.

These are critical points I raise, both for BitCoin mining and any other endeavor that requires a certain level of technical expertise. The world is full of idiots and bullshitters, and it's absolutely critical to make certain you know what you are doing, and who you are talking to in order to avoid the mistakes that are made by people that do not know what they are doing, but believe that they do.

So. I want to know about Video Cards and how they relate to BitCoin mining, and I'd like these technical issues discussed and resolved if possible. "I don't know" is an acceptable answer. Pretending to know, bullshitting a way around the question, redirecting attention away from the question(s) or any other form of manipulation is not acceptable, and I'll make a permanent judgement regarding the character of anyone that tries it. <-- Pay attention to that last part, it's the most important.

If a motherboard says atx,then I have to get a ATX Full tower case?

EDIT: Does the amount of ram affect Mh/s or just the type?
