So, I decided to buy something with BTC and I bought it from a trade at a website. The trade went smooth and I got my bitcoins in my wallet of the website.

I downloaded Bitcoin Core Wallet 0.91 and installed on my computer. It has a default receiving address and I sent the entire BTC from my wallet of that particular website to my receiving wallet in my BTC core wallet that is installed on my PC.

Blockchain shows the balance when searched with my address. However, the balance does not appear on the BTC core. Does it need to synchronize? It says, 144 weeks behind.

Should I wait until the entire synchronization is complete?

Nothing will appear until you are synchronized. If it still doesnt appear after you are....Find the reset blockchain option and click that and re-synchronize with the network.

If it still doesnt appear....keep reseting the blockchain to the day before you made the trade. It will eventually show up.

If its on blockchain, the BTC is there.

Thanks! Bitcoin-qt is not utilizing my entire network speed. Downloading the blockchain torrent now which is updated to April 14.
Now the speed is better.

Also, any idea where should I copy this entire downloaded blockchain? Which location on my drive?

Hi sruni,

Paste the bootstrap.dat file into C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin folder

Then start Bitcoin Core. It will speed up the sync process.

You always have the option of importing your private key into a trustless web wallet, such as blockchain.info/wallet.

To dump your private key (password for your bitcoin address), start Bitcoin Core, go to the debug window, in the console type:

If your wallet is password protected type: walletpassphrase [password] 999

Then type: dumpprivkey [bitcoin address]

Take the private key, and import it into a web wallet, and you can immediately spend those funds.

Bitcoins don't really exist. Only transactions do. So if you're 144 days behind, all you see is the transactions up to that day. Your transaction is today I gather, so you'll only see it in a few hours when the entire blockchain is downloaded.
